University women’s volleyball team reached
the 30-win mark for the 16th straight season
as the Lady Cougars swept a pair of American
Mideast Conference matches on Saturday
afternoon at Carlow (Pa.) University to
extend the team’s winning streak to 11
straight matches.
MVNU
(30-7) began the day by sweeping the
University of Rio Grande 25-12, 25-17,
25-14. Freshman middle hitter Gina Porto
(left) led the way with a
career-high 17 kills, while junior setter
Kaylin Austen handed out 36 assists to go
with seven digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Jackie Albrecht pounded eight kills with two
aces and seven digs, and sophomore middle
hitter Sarah Yutzy and junior right-side
hitter Courtney Springer both finished with
seven kills with Yutzy posting three blocks.
Freshman outside hitter Cieleste Rose led
the team with 10 digs and a career-high
three blocks, while sophomore libero Caitlin
Myles served up two aces to go with nine
digs.
In the second match of the day, the Lady
Cougars swept host Carlow 25-15, 25-16,
25-10 behind 13 kills and nine digs by
Springer. Albrecht added 12 kills and 10
digs, while Austen handed out 37 assists
with 10 digs and two aces. Porto finished
with eight kills and three blocks, and Yutzy
also posted three blocks. Rose led the team
with 16 digs, while tallied eight digs.
“It was nice to pick up two more
conference road wins and also be able to
play everyone,” said MVNU coach Paul
Swanson. “I thought that we played pretty
well today and did a good job of executing.”
The Lady Cougars will be back in action
on Tuesday night when MVNU will host
Cedarville University in an important AMC
match that will start at 7:00 p.m.
