The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s volleyball team swept an
American Mideast Conference match at Point
Park (Pa.) University by the scores of
25-20, 25-14, 25-22 at Greentree Sportsplex
on Tuesday night.
Senior
outside hitter Audrey Hickinbotham
(left) led the Lady Cougars (17-6,
3-2 AMC) with 11 kills, three aces, seven
digs, and 16 serve reception attempts with
no errors against the Lady Pioneers (8-13,
1-3 AMC). Sophomore middle hitter Jackie
Albrecht and junior right-side hitter
Courtney Springer both pounded six kills
each with Albrecht adding 14 digs and seven
blocks. Junior setter Kaylin Austen handed
out 29 assists, and sophomore middle hitter
Sarah Yutzy posted four blocks. Sophomore
defensive specialist Caitlin Myles and
Springer finished with 12 and 11 digs
respectively, while freshman middle hitter
Gina Porto smashed five kills.
“I’m very pleased with this win tonight,”
said MVNU coach Paul Swanson. “It was nice
to come out and take care of business in
three sets. We pulled away in a close first
set, rolled in the second set, and then
pulled away late in the third set to get
this win. It is always good to post
conference road wins and we need to look to
continue that this weekend.”
The Lady Cougars will continue their
six-match road trip on Friday with a
conference match at Houghton (N.Y.) College
at 4:00 p.m. followed by an 11:30 a.m.
conference match at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.)
College on Saturday.
