MVNU Volleyball Team Remains Unbeaten
with Pair of Wins

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (9-8-2007) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team remained unbeaten on the
season as the Lady Cougars swept matches
from both Indiana University-Southeast and
Ursuline College on Saturday morning in a
tri-match held in the Physical Education
Center.
In
the first match, MVNU (7-0) downed
Indiana-Southeast 30-13, 30-20, 30-19 as
junior outside hitter Audrey Hickinbotham
and sophomore outside hitter Courtney
Springer (left) pounded 13 and
10 kills respectively with Springer adding
11 digs. Senior middle hitter Shena Beheler
contributed eight kills, four blocks, and 10
digs, while sophomore middle hitter
Stephanie Zollars finished with nine kills
and three blocks. Sophomore setter Kaylin
Austen handed out 34 assists, and senior
libero Tiffany Milburn registered 13 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Lady
Cougars pulled away from Ursuline 30-27,
30-18, 30-14 as Beheler and Hickinbotham
each smashed 14 kills and Zollars added a
career-high 12 kills. Beheler added six
blocks and 10 digs, and Milburn tallied 24
digs. Springer and freshman middle hitter
Jackie Albrecht contributed seven kills
apiece, while Austen handed out 39 more
assists.
In the final match of the day,
Indiana-Southeast rallied to defeat Ursuline
24-30, 27-30, 30-20, 30-26, 15-9.
“I thought we did some nice things
today,” said MVNU head coach Paul Swanson.
“We had nice balance with our attacking
numbers, and we did what we had to do in
order to pick up the two wins.”
The Lady Cougars will return to action on
Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when MVNU will host
Malone College in a non-conference match.
