COLUMBUS, Ohio (10-25-2007) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team claimed at least a share of the American Mideast Conference South Division title with a 30-26, 30-22, 22-30, 30-24 victory at Ohio Dominican University on Thursday night as the Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to 20 straight matches.

Senior middle hitter Shena Beheler (left) led MVNU (32-1, 10-0 AMC South), which moved up to a program-best 15th in the latest NAIA poll, with season highs of 27 kills and 18 digs to go with four blocks. Sophomore setter Kaylin Austen handed out a career-high 60 assists with 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Courtney Springer smashed a career-high 15 kills to go with 17 digs. Freshman middle hitter Jackie Albrecht and junior outside hitter Audrey Hickinbotham pounded 12 kills apiece with Albrecht contributing 16 digs and three blocks. Meanwhile, senior libero Tiffany Milburn posted 24 digs, and sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Zollars tallied six kills.

“It is nice to clinch at least a share of the conference title,” said MVNU head coach Paul Swanson, who has now led the Lady Cougars to seven conference titles in the past 14 seasons. “(Ohio Dominican) really played well, especially in the back row, in the third and fourth games and made us earn the win tonight. I was pleased with our effort and execution.”

MVNU will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference tri-match at Malone College with a match against Malone at noon and a match against Houghton (N.Y.) College at 2:00 p.m. Then, the Lady Cougars will look to wrap up an outright conference title on Tuesday when the team hosts Shawnee State University at 7:00 p.m. on Senior Night.
