PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (10-4-2007) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to six straight matches and remained unbeaten in American Mideast Conference South Division play as the Lady Cougars posted a 30-23, 30-24, 30-21 conference win at Shawnee State University on Thursday night.

Senior middle hitter Shena Beheler led MVNU (18-1, 6-0 AMC South) with 17 kills, 11 digs, three blocks, and two aces, while sophomore setter Kaylin Austen handed out 41 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Springer pounded nine kills with 11 digs, and freshman middle hitter Jackie Albrecht posted eight kills, 11 digs, and four blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Stephanie Zollars (left) and junior outside hitter Audrey Hickinbotham contributed seven and six kills respectively with Hickinbotham serving up two aces, while senior libero Tiffany Milburn registered 26 digs against the Lady Bears (10-11, 0-6 AMC South).

“This was another important conference win,” said MVNU head coach Paul Swanson. “(Shawnee State) is a much improved team that is plenty capable of winning on any given night. Their conference record is very deceiving. We executed and did what we needed to do in order to win this match.”

The Lady Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, will be back in action on Saturday when MVNU will travel to the University of Rio Grande for a tri-match. The Lady Cougars will take on the host Redwomen at 1:00 p.m. in a conference match and Central State University at 3:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
