Lady Cougars Sweep Rio Grande in AMC
South Match

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (9-25-2007) - After a
good showing over the weekend with a
third-place finish out of 10 teams at the
Best of the Best Tournament, the Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team took care of business on
Tuesday night with a 30-15, 30-24, 30-25
victory over the University of Rio Grande in
American Mideast Conference South Division
action.
Senior
middle hitter Shena Beheler led the Lady
Cougars (14-1, 2-0 AMC South) with 19 kills,
four aces, and two blocks, while sophomore
outside hitter Courtney Springer
(left) pounded 13 kills to go with
14 digs. Sophomore setter Kaylin Austen
handed out 36 assists, and senior libero
Tiffany Milburn registered 17 digs and three
aces. Junior outside hitter Audrey
Hickinbotham smashed 12 kills with nine
digs, while freshman middle hitter Sarah
Yutzy tallied a career-high nine kills.
“We did what we had to do in order to get
the win tonight,” said MVNU head coach Paul
Swanson. “I wish that we would have been a
little more consistent, but we were still
able to come away with the victory. We have
to keep pushing ourselves to get better each
time out if we want to compete well against
the best teams in our conference.”
Speaking of competing against the best
teams in the AMC South, the Lady Cougars
will travel to Cedarville University on
Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. conference match
against the Yellow Jackets (13-6, 3-0 AMC
South). MVNU snapped an eight-match losing
skid to Cedarville on Saturday in the
third-place match of the Best of the Best
Tournament by downing the Yellow Jackets
30-17, 27-30, 30-28, 30-16.
