2003 MVNU Volleyball Match
Recaps
November 22, at Daemen (NY) College
The Lady Cougars' season came to an end as they dropped a hard-fought match
at Daemen in the NAIA Region IX Tournament semfinals by the scores of
31-29, 30-24, 27-30, 21-30, 12-15. Jessica Harding led MVNU with 15
kills, while Carrie Mason pounded 14 kills with three blocks.
Jenny Weaver finished with seven blocks and two aces, and Katey Percival
handed out 48 assists with 19 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica posted 31
and 23 digs respectively (both new career hights), while Chelsea Knight contributed three
blocks and 10 kills.
November 21, vs. University of Michigan-Dearborn
MVNU swept Michigan-Dearborn 30-21, 30-13, 30-23 in a play-in match at
Daemen (NY) College to advance to the NAIA Region IX Tournament
semifinals. Amanda Stevens led the Lady Cougars with nine kills, 16
digs, and
three aces, while Jessica Harding and Carrie Mason each pounded eight
kills. Katey Percival handed out 30 assists to go with 13 digs, and Jenny Weaver
finished with three aces and three blocks. Chelsea Knight posted a
team-high four blocks, while Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams tallied 14
and 10 digs respectively.
November 15, vs. Malone College
The Lady Cougars defeated Malone 30-28, 28-30, 30-19, 30-19 in the
American Mideast Conference Tournament third-place match at Walsh
University to advance to the NAIA Region IX Tournament for the tenth
straight year. Jessica Harding and Carrie Mason pounded 19 and 17
kills respectively, while Amanda Stevens added 14 kills and 28 digs.
Katey Percival handed out 52 assists, and Chelsea Knight contributed four
aces and five blocks. Jenny Weaver also tallied five blocks, while
Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams posted 14 and 11 digs respectively.
November 15, at Walsh University
MVNU fell 23-30, 29-31, 13-30 at Walsh in the semifinals of the American
Mideast Conference Tournament. Carrie Mason and Jenny Weaver each
smashed nine kills against the Lady Cavaliers, who are ranked 15th in the
latest NAIA national poll. Katey Percival also handed out 31
assists, and Jeni Vanderhoof posted 10 digs.
November 14, vs. Seton Hill (PA) University
The Lady Cougars notched another win in the American Mideast Conference
Tournament at Walsh University as MVNU, the sixth seed from the AMC South
Division, swept Seton Hill, the second seed from the AMC North Division,
30-24, 30-26, 30-28. Jessica Harding led the way with 13 kills and
four blocks, while Amanda Stevens finished with 12 kills and 16
digs. Carrie Mason served up four aces with eight kills, and Katey
Percival handed out 31 assists with 10 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof also
posted 10 digs.
November 14, vs. Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College
MVNU opened up play in the American Mideast Conference Tournament held at
Walsh University with a 30-18, 30-24, 30-14 victory over Roberts Wesleyan,
the sixth seed from the AMC North Division. The win was the 700th of
Coach Paul Swanson's career with 685 of them coming in 20 years at MVNU.
The Lady Cougars, who are the third seed from the AMC South Division, were
led by Carrie Mason with 12 kills and two aces and Jessica Harding with
nine
kills and seven blocks. Chelsea Knight also added nine blocks and
two aces, while Katey Percival handed out 25 assists with 10 digs.
November 6, URBANA UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars closed out the regular season by sweeping Urbana 30-18,
30-17, 30-20 in an American Mideast Conference South Division match.
Carrie Mason pounded 14 kills with two aces and six blocks to lead MVNU,
while Jessica Harding added nine kills. Chelsea Knight finished with
nine kills and four blocks, and Jeni Vanderhoof posted a team-high 12
digs. Katey Percival handed out 34 assists with 11 digs, while Jenny
Weaver tallied six blocks. Amanda Stevens also smashed five kills.
November 4, SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY
MVNU defeated Shawnee State 30-26, 30-22, 30-24 in American Mideast
Conference South Division action. Jessica Harding smashed 14 kills
and Amanda Stevens added 14 kills and 13 digs to pace the Lady
Cougars. Chelsea Knight finished with six kills and four blocks, while Carrie Mason
tallied eight kills and three blocks. Katey Percival handed out 41
assists, and Jeni Vanderhoof posted 10 digs. Bethany Anderson also
served up a team-best two aces.
October 31, vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan University
The fifth-seeded Lady Cougars swept ninth-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan 30-26,
30-15, 30-26 to close out pool play action at the National Christian
College Athletic Association National Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan
University, but MVNU failed to advance to the single elimination portion
of the tournament. Carrie Mason led the team with 12 kills, four
blocks, and two aces, while Jessica Harding pounded nine kills with four
blocks. Katey Percival handed out 38 assists, and Amanda Stevens
finished with nine kills and 11 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof also tallied
13 digs, while Chelsea Knight and Jenny Weaver contributed five and four
blocks respectively.
October 31, vs. Hope International (CA) University
MVNU, the fifth seed, fell to eighth-seeded Hope International 30-21,
26-30, 26-30, 29-31 in pool play at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan
University. Amanda Stevens led the Lady Cougars with a career-high
21 kills and 17
digs, while Jessica Harding pounded 15 kills. Jeni Vanderhoof and
Jessica Adams posted 21 and 17 digs respectively, and Jenny Weaver led the team with

Percival also handed out 45 assists to go with 12 digs, while Carrie Mason
smashed 12 kills.
October 30, vs. Olivet Nazarene (IL) University
The fifth-seeded Lady Cougars fell 14-30, 23-30, 32-34 to Olivet Nazarene,
the top seed and defending champion ranked 20th in the latest NAIA
national poll, in pool play at the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Carrie Mason and Amanda Stevens pounded 12 and nine kills respectively,
while Jenny Weaver posted a team-high five blocks. Katey Percival
and Jeni Vanderhoof each tallied six digs with Percival handing out 27
assists, and Jessica Adams recorded 11 digs.
October 30, at Indiana Wesleyan University
MVNU, the fifth seed, knocked off fourth-seeded host Indiana Wesleyan
30-25, 27-30, 30-21, 30-25 in the Lady Cougars' first pool play match at
the National Christian College Athletic Association National
Tournament. Carrie Mason pounded 17 kills to lead the way, while
Amanda Stevens added 14 kills, 11 digs, and two aces. Jenny Weaver and Jessica
Harding each smashed nine kills with Weaver adding six blocks, and Katey
Percival handed out 48 assists to go with four blocks. Jeni
Vanderhoof also posted a team-high 18 digs, while Jessica Adams finished
with two aces and 16 digs.
October 28, OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars won their third straight American Mideast Conference
South Division match by defeating Ohio Dominican 30-25, 30-20, 26-30,
30-25. Jenny Weaver led the team with 16 kills and six blocks, while
Carrie Mason added 14 kills and three aces. Amanda Stevens and
Jessica Harding each pounded 12 kills with Stevens adding a team-high 16
digs. Katey Percival handed out 52 assists to go with six blocks,
and Chelsea Knight served up four aces. Jessica Adams and Jeni
Vanderhoof also tallied 11 and nine digs respectively.
October 25, UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE
MVNU swept Rio Grande 30-17, 30-26, 30-19 in an American Mideast
Conference South Division match. Amanda Stevens led the way by
pounding 13 kills, while Chelsea Knight added eight kills and four
blocks. Jeni Vanderhoof served up two aces and posted seven digs,
and Carrie Mason tallied six kills and three blocks. Katey Percival
handed out 46 assists to go with seven kills, eight digs, and three
blocks.
October 23, at Tiffin University
The Lady Cougars returned to their winning ways as MVNU rallied for a
24-30, 30-12, 30-21, 30-26 American Mideast Conference South Division
victory at Tiffin. Amanda Stevens led the team with 14 kills and 23
digs, while Jenny Weaver added 14 kills and five blocks. Carrie
Mason finished with 13 kills, seven blocks, and a career-high 20 digs, and
Jeni Vanderhoof posted 11 kills and 24 digs. Jessica Harding also
pounded 10 kills, while Katey Percival handed out 51 assists.
October 21, at Walsh University
MVNU fell 17-30, 27-30, 27-30 at Walsh, ranked 14th in the latest NAIA
national poll, in an American Mideast Conference South Division
match. Carrie Mason led the Lady Cougars with 11 kills, while
Jessica Harding added six kills to become the 16th player in school
history to register 1,000 career kills. Amanda Stevens served up
four aces, and Jenny Weaver posted a team-high six blocks. Katey
Percival handed out 24 assists, while Jeni Vanderhoof tallied a team-best
13 digs.
October 16, GENEVA (PA) COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars swept Geneva 30-27, 30-22, 30-24 to win the National
Christian College Athletic Association East Region Tournament and earn an
automatic berth in the NCCAA National Tournament. Jessica Harding
led the way with 15 kills and four blocks, while Carrie Mason smashed 11
kills. Chelsea Knight finished with 10 kills and four blocks, and
Jeni Vanderhoof posted 10 digs. Katey Percival handed out 44 assists
and served up three aces.
October 16, MALONE COLLEGE
MVNU swept Malone 30-28, 30-25, 31-29 in an American Mideast Conference
South Division match that was also the opening match of the National
Christian College Athletic Association East Region Tournament.
Carrie Mason and Amanda Stevens pounded 14 and 12 kills respectively,
while Jenny Weaver finished with 13 digs and seven blocks.
Jessica Harding added eight kills and three blocks, and Chelsea Knight
tallied four kills and served up three aces. Katey Percival also
handed out 41 assists, while Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams each posted
11 digs.
October 14, at Urbana University
The Lady Cougars swept their third straight American Mideast Conference
South Division road match with a 30-20, 30-24, 30-26 win at Urbana.
Carrie Mason led the team with 14 kills and four blocks, while Jessica
Harding smashed eight kills. Chelsea Knight finished with four
blocks, and Jessica Adams posted 15 digs and served up two aces.
Katey Percival handed out 31 assists with 11 digs, while Jeni Vanderhoof also tallied
14 digs.
October 11, at Shawnee State University
MVNU swept Shawnee State 30-17, 30-24, 30-21 in an American Mideast
Conference South Division match. Amanda Stevens led the way with 17
kills and 18 digs, while Carrie Mason added 12 kills and three aces.
Jessica Harding smashed 10 kills, and Katey
Percival handed out 51 assists to go with 11 digs. Chelsea Knight posted a team-high
three blocks, while Jeni Vanderhoof tallied 11 digs. Jenny Weaver
also pounded six kills.
October 7, at Ohio Dominican University
The Lady Cougars returned to their winning ways as MVNU swept Ohio
Dominican 30-23, 33-31, 31-29 in American Mideast Conference South
Division play. Amanda Stevens led the way with 17 kills and 20 digs,
while Jenny Weaver finished with 10 kills and five blocks. Chelsea
Knight added five blocks and two aces, and Katey Percival handed out 39
assists. Jeni Vanderhoof posted 14 digs, while Carrie Mason
contributed seven kills, four blocks, two aces, and 13 digs. Jessica
Harding also smashed 10 kills.
October 4, vs. Cedarville University
MVNU fell to Cedarville 25-30, 25-30, 30-15, 32-34 in American Mideast
Conference South Division action. Amanda Stevens led the Lady
Cougars with 20 kills, 25 digs, and two aces, while Carrie Mason finished
with 17 kills and 10 digs. Jessica Harding added 15 kills, and Chelsea Knight
and Jenny Weaver posted five blocks apiece. Katey Percival handed
out 54 assists with two aces and 11 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof and
Jessica Adams tallied 18 and 13 digs respectively.
October 4, at University of Rio Grande
The Lady Cougars swept Rio Grande 30-23, 30-23, 30-19 in an American
Mideast Conference South Division match. Carrie Mason pounded a
team-high 13 kills, while Jessica Harding smashed 10 kills. Katey
Percival handed out 41 assists, and Percival, Jenny Weaver, and Dawn Lower
each posted three blocks. Jessica Adams and Chelsea Knight served up
two aces apiece, while Amanda Stevens finished with nine kills and 12
digs. Bethany Anderson and Jeni Vanderhoof also contributed nine
digs each.
September 30, WALSH UNIVERSITY
In a battle of ranked teams, MVNU, ranked 25th in the latest NAIA poll,
snapped 13th-ranked Walsh's 34-game winning streak, but the Lady Cavaliers
won the match 27-30, 30-25, 22-30, 25-30 in American Mideast Conference
South Division action. Amanda Stevens led the Lady Cougars with 11
kills and 14 digs, while Jessica Harding added 11 kills and five
blocks. Jenny Weaver also contributed 11 kills and six blocks, and
Carrie Mason smashed eight kills. Katey
Percival handed out 43 assists with 13 digs, while Jeni Vanderhoof posted
a team-best 20 digs.
September 27, at King (TN) College
The Lady Cougars claimed the King Invitational title by defeating the host
Lady Tornadoes 33-31, 30-27, 30-14 in the championship match. Amanda
Stevens led MVNU with 16 kills and 14 digs, while Jessica Harding smashed
14 kills. Jenny Weaver added 10 kills and five blocks, and Jeni
Vanderhoof posted 14 digs. Chelsea Knight served up two aces, while
Katey Percival handed out 48 assists. Carrie Mason tallied nine
kills, and Jessica Adams recorded 11 digs. Percival was selected as the
tournament's Most Valuable Player, and she was joined on the
All-Tournament Team by Weaver.
September 27, vs. Southern Wesleyan
(SC) University
MVNU advanced to the championship match of the King (TN) College
Invitational as the Lady Cougars swept Southern Wesleyan 30-24, 30-21,
30-21. Carrie Mason led the way with 11 kills and two aces, while
Jessica Harding pounded nine kills. Katey Percival handed out 40
assists to go with 10 digs, and Katie Vipperman and Jenny Weaver posted 13 and 11 digs
respectively. Dawn Lower and Katie Ickes also contributed six kills
apiece.
September 26, at King (TN) College
The Lady Cougars nearly rallied from a two-game deficit before falling to
the host Lady Tornadoes at the King Invitational 20-30, 24-30, 30-24,
30-23, 11-15 to snap their six-match winning streak. Jessica Harding
pounded a team-high 16 kills, while Jenny Weaver added 14 kills and six
blocks. Carrie Mason posted nine kills and seven blocks, and Katey Percival handed
out 46 assists. Jessica Adams served up three aces, while Jeni
Vanderhoof tallied a career-high 27 digs. Amanda Stevens also
contributed 11 kills and 18 digs.
September 26, vs. Cumberland (KY)
College
MVNU extended its winning streak to six straight matches by sweeping
Cumberland 30-23, 30-14, 30-28 at the King (TN) College
Invitational. Jeni Vanderhoof led the team with 13 digs and eight
kills, while Carrie Mason posted five blocks. Katey Percival handed
out 26 assists, and Katie Vipperman served up two aces. Bethany
Anderson also recorded 11 digs.
September 25, at University of
Charleston (WV)
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to five straight as MVNU
swept NCAA Division II Charleston 30-17, 30-17, 30-25 in non-conference
action. Chelsea Knight led the way with nine kills, two aces, and
four blocks, while Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams posted 14 and 11 digs
respectively. Jessica Harding pounded 11 kills, and Amanda Stevens
finished with two aces, four blocks, and 12 digs. Katey Percival also handed
out 30 assists to go with 11 digs.
September 20, DAEMEN (NY) COLLEGE
MVNU won its fourth straight match by sweeping Daemen 30-17, 30-24, 30-21
in a non-conference match. Amanda Stevens pounded a team-high 17
kills to go with five blocks, while Katey Percival contributed four aces,
14 digs, and 40 assists. Jessica Harding also smashed 12 kills with
nine digs, and Carrie Mason tallied seven kills.
September 20, SAINT VINCENT (PA) COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to three straight matches
as MVNU swept Saint Vincent 30-24, 30-26, 30-19 in non-conference
action. Jessica Harding smashed a team-high 15 kills, while Carrie
Mason added 11 kills and four blocks. Amanda Stevens also finished
with 11 kills and nine digs, and Katey Percival handed out 45
assists. Jeni Vanderhoof also posted a team-high 11 digs.
September 19, ROBERTS WESLEYAN (NY) COLLEGE
MVNU swept Roberts Wesleyan 30-23, 30-9, 30-23 in a non-conference
match. Jessica Harding pounded 13 kills to lead the way, while
Carrie Mason added 11 kills. Amanda Stevens finished with seven
kills, and Jenny Weaver posted a team-high six blocks. Katey
Percival also contributed three blocks, four aces, and 38 assists, while
Jeni Vanderhoof tallied eight digs.
September 19, NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars returned to their winning ways with a 30-16, 30-15, 30-20
non-conference victory over Notre Dame. Amanda Stevens led the way
with nine kills, while Katie Ickes, Katey Percival, and Chelsea Knight
each added five kills apiece. Knight posted a team-high seven
blocks, and Carrie Mason and Dawn Lower each contributed four
blocks. Percival handed out 35 assists, while Bethany Anderson
tallied six digs.
September 16, CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY
For the second straight year, MVNU fell at home to Cedarville as the Lady
Cougars dropped an American Mideast Conference South Division match by the
scores of 30-27, 24-30, 26-30, 30-26, 12-15. Carrie Mason led MVNU
with a career-high 22 kills and five blocks, while Amanda Stevens finished
with 14 kills and 21 digs. Jessica Harding added nine kills, and
Chelsea Knight registered seven kills and 13 blocks. Jenny Weaver
also tallied seven kills and seven blocks, while Katey Percival handed out
a season-high 55 assists. Jeni Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams also
contributed 24 and 14 digs respectively.
September 13, vs. Houghton (NY)
College
The Lady Cougars swept Houghton 30-9, 30-17, 30-25 in a non-conference
match played at Malone College. Amanda Stevens led the team with 10
kills and 14 digs, while Jessica Harding added 10 kills and two
blocks. Jenny Weaver registered three blocks and five aces, and Jeni
Vanderhoof and Jessica Adams finished with 10 and eight digs
respectively. Katey Percival handed out 33 assists, while Chelsea
Knight served up two aces.
September 13, at Malone College
MVNU won its seventh straight match as the Lady Cougars defeated Malone
30-17, 30-20, 30-24 in an American Mideast Conference South Division
match. Carrie Mason pounded a team-high 15 kills, while Jessica
Harding added 10 kills. Amanda Stevens and Jeni Vanderhoof posted 13
and 12 digs respectively, and Chelsea Knight finished with eight blocks
and three aces. Katey Percival registered 40 assists, while Jenny
Weaver contributed five blocks.
September 11, TIFFIN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars opened up American Mideast Conference South Division play
with a 30-26, 30-21, 30-21 victory over Tiffin. Amanda Stevens
pounded a team-high 14 kills, while Jessica Harding finished with nine kills. Katey Percival handed out 42 assists, and
Jeni Vanderhoof posted a team-best 14 digs. Chelsea Knight

UNIVERSITY-NEWARK
MVNU extended its winning streak to five straight matches as the Lady
Cougars swept Ohio State-Newark 30-13, 30-11, 30-11 in non-conference
action. Carrie Mason pounded a team-high eight kills, while Amanda
Stevens added seven kills and three blocks. Dawn Lower also smashed
seven kills, and Chelsea Knight finished with five kills and three
blocks. Katey Percival registered five kills, three aces, and 32
assists, while Katie Vipperman also served up three aces.
September 5, MOUNTAIN STATE (WV)
UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars breezed to a 30-9, 30-12, 30-12 non-conference victory
over Mountain State in MVNU's home opener. Amanda Stevens and Katie
Ickes each smashed eight kills, while Carrie Mason finished with eight
kills, five blocks, and three aces. Jessica Harding pounded seven
kills, and Chelsea Knight posted a team-high seven blocks. Katey
Percival also handed out 40 assists to go with a team-best nine digs.
September 3, at Notre Dame College
MVNU won its third straight match as the Lady Cougars swept Notre Dame
30-19, 30-21, 30-24 in non-conference action on head coach Paul Swanson's
birthday. Amanda Stevens and Jeni Vanderhoof each smashed seven
kills to lead the way, while Chelsea Knight and Dawn Lower finished with
six kills apiece. Jenny Weaver posted a team-high four blocks, and
Jessica Adams and Carrie Mason served up four and three aces
respectively. Katey Percival also handed out 34 assists.
August 30, at Cornerstone (MI) University
The Lady Cougars closed out the Cornerstone Invitational by sweeping the
host Golden Eagles, who received votes in the NAIA preseason poll, 30-22,
30-22, 30-27 to go 3-1 and finish tied for second at the 11-team event. Amanda Stevens led the way with
12 kills and 11 digs, while Carrie Mason finished with 10 kills and four
blocks. Jenny Weaver added eight kills and a team-high eight blocks,
and Katey Percival served up three aces to go with 33 assists and 10 digs.
Chelsea Knight also contributed three blocks, while Jeni Vanderhoof and
Jessica Adams posted 12 and 10 digs respectively. Percival was named
to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.
August 30, vs. Aquinas (MI) College
MVNU rebounded from its first loss by sweeping Aquinas 30-27, 30-22, 30-16
at the Cornerstone (MI) University Invitational. Amanda Stevens led
the Lady Cougars with nine kills, nine digs, and six blocks, while Carrie
Mason smashed eight kills. Jenny Weaver tallied six kills, seven
blocks, and two aces, and Chelsea Knight posted four blocks. Katey
Percival also handed out 29 assists to go with nine digs.
August 29, vs. Taylor (IN) University
The Lady Cougars suffered their first loss of the season as MVNU fell 27-30,
30-27, 27-30, 28-30 to Taylor, ranked 19th in the NAIA preseason poll, at
the Cornerstone (MI) University Invitational. Carrie Mason led the
team with 15 kills and served up three aces along with Jeni Vanderhoof.
Jenny Weaver registered 10 kills, three aces, and six blocks, and Amanda Stevens
finished with 10 kills, two aces, and eight digs. Jessica Harding
also tallied nine kills and four blocks, while Katey Percival recorded 11
digs, 45 assists, and a career-high seven kills.
August 29, vs. Cardinal Stritch (WI)
University
MVNU opened play at the Cornerstone (MI) University Invitational with a
30-5, 30-18, 30-25 victory over Cardinal Stritch. Dawn Lower pounded
a team-high 10 kills, while Chelsea Knight added eight kills and a
team-best six blocks. Katie Ickes recorded six kills and two blocks,
and Carrie Mason served up three aces. Jessica Adams also handed out
20 assists, while Amanda Stevens smashed six kills. Ickes, Adams,
and Bethany Anderson each served up two aces.
August 28, at Trinity Christian (IL)
College
The Lady Cougars made it two in a row as MVNU downed host Trinity
Christian 30-24, 30-27, 20-30, 30-25 in the second non-conference match of
the night. Jessica Harding led the team with 15 kills and five
blocks, while Jenny Weaver added 13 kills, four blocks, and 14 digs.
Amanda Stevens pounded 13 kills to go with a team-high 17 digs, and Jeni Vanderhoof
tallied three aces and 10 digs. Jessica Adams registered 15 digs, while Katey Percival handed out 52 assists to go along
with three aces. Carrie Mason also smashed eight kills.
August 28, vs. Bethel (IN) College
MVNU successfully opened the 2003 season by sweeping Bethel 30-11, 30-25,
30-21 in a non-conference match that was played at Trinity Christian (IL)
University. Chelsea Knight led the way with a team-high 13 kills and
three blocks, while Jenny Weaver added six kills and a team-best six
blocks and 10 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof served up three aces, and Amanda Stevens
recorded six kills and eight digs. Katey Percival also handed out 34 assists.
