November 23, at Walsh University
MVNU saw its season come to an end as the Lady Cougars fell to NAIA #15
Walsh 13-30, 22-30, 24-30 in the NAIA Region IX Tournament semfinals on
the Lady Cavaliers' home court. Amanda Stevens led the team with
nine kills and 12 digs, while Katie Zipf pounded eight kills in the final
match of her career. Carrie McClelland finished with seven kills and
three blocks, and Jeni Vanderhoof added 13 digs. Katey Percival also
handed out 26 assists, while Jessica Harding posted three blocks.
November 16, vs. Houghton (NY) College
The Lady Cougars swept Houghton 30-27, 30-26, 30-24 to earn third place at
the American Mideast Conference Tournament and qualify for the NAIA Region
IX Tournament. Katie Zipf led MVNU with 15 kills and three blocks as
she became the 15th player in school history to record 1,000 career
kills. Carrie McClelland added nine kills, three blocks, and two
aces, while Chelsea Knight recorded four blocks and seven kills.
Jeni Vanderhoof and Amanda Stevens posted 16 and 12 digs respectively, and
Katey Percival contributed 11 digs and 35 assists.
November 16, at Daemen (NY) College
MVNU dropped a hard-fought 22-30, 30-23, 23-30, 30-28, 8-15 decision to
host Daemen in the semifinals of the American Mideast Conference
Tournament. Carrie McClelland led the Lady Cougars with 19 kills and
three blocks, while Amanda Stevens added 13 kills and 22 digs.
Chelsea Knight pounded 10 kills, and Katie Zipf finished with eight kills
and two aces. Katey Percival contributed 13 digs and 53 assists,
while Jeni Vanderhoof and Jenny Weaver also posted 13 digs each.
November 15, vs. Cedarville
University
The Lady Cougars opened play at the American Mideast Conference Tournament
with a 30-27, 38-40, 30-26, 30-25 victory over Cedarville to advance to
the semifinals. Carrie McClelland led the way with 17 kills, five
blocks, and two
aces, while Amanda Stevens added 11 kills and 25 digs. Jessica
Harding also smashed 11 kills, and Chelsea Knight led the team with nine
blocks to go with two aces. Katey Percival finished with 40 assists
and 20 digs, while Jenny Weaver tallied 17 digs. Katie Zipf and Jeni
Vanderhoof also posted 14 and 13 digs respectively.
November 7, at Malone College
MVNU closed out the regular season with a 25-30, 30-26, 30-21, 26-30,
15-11 American Mideast Conference South Division victory at Malone.
Katie Zipf led the Lady Cougars with 16 kills, 13 digs, and six blocks,
while Jessica Harding pounded 17 kills. Carrie McClelland
finished with nine kills, six blocks, and two aces, and Chelsea Knight
recorded seven blocks and two aces. Jeni Vanderhoof posted a
career-high 21 digs, while Amanda Stevens served up four aces to go with

digs. Katey Percival also handed out a career-high 56 assists.
November 5, URBANA UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars swept Urbana 30-20, 30-22, 30-21 in American Mideast
Conference South Division action as MVNU played its final regular-season
home match. Katie Zipf led the team with 10 kills and seven blocks, while Jessica Harding smashed 12 kills to go with four
blocks. Carrie McClelland added six kills and four blocks, and
Chelsea Knight finished with seven blocks. Katey Percival served up
two aces in addition to compiling 33 assists and 10 digs, while Amanda
Stevens posted a team-high 17 digs.
November 2, vs. Olivet Nazarene (IL)
University
MVNU, the seventh seed, fell to top-seeded Olivet Nazarene, ranked #18 in
the NAIA, 21-30, 19-30,
25-30 in the championship match of the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament. Jessica Harding led the team with
11 kills and two blocks, while Amanda Stevens added seven kills and 11 digs. Carrie McClelland posted three
blocks and six kills, and Jenny
Weaver served up a team-high six aces. Katey Percival also handed
out 28 assists. Percival and McClelland were named to the
All-Tournament Team for the Lady Cougars.
November 2, vs. The Master's (CA)
College
The Lady Cougars continued their run at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament as seventh-seeded MVNU downed
fifth-seeded The Master's 30-26, 30-32, 30-20, 30-23 in the semifinals to
advance to the title match for the first time in school history.
Carrie McClelland led the team with 13 kills and nine blocks, while Katie
Zipf added 12 kills and 14 digs. Amanda Stevens finished with 10 kills, six blocks, and 20 digs, and Jenny Weaver served up
two aces to
go with 21 digs. Katey Percival also handed out 39 assists, while
Chelsea Knight and Jessica Harding contributed eight kills apiece.
November 1, vs. MidAmerica Nazarene
(KS) University
MVNU suffered its first pool play loss at the National Christian College
Athletic Association as the seventh-seeded Lady Cougars fell 19-30, 30-19,
19-30, 22-30 to sixth-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene. Despite the loss,
MVNU advanced to the semifinals as the top seed from the pool.
Amanda Stevens pounded 14 kills to lead the way, while Carrie McClelland
added 12 kills. Chelsea Knight posted nine kills and five blocks, and Katey
Percival handed out 40 assists to go along with 11 digs. Jessica
Harding also smashed seven kills, while Jeni Vanderhoof recorded 11 digs.
November 1, vs. Christian Heritage
(CA) College
The Lady Cougars continued its run at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament as seventh-seeded MVNU knocked
off second-seeded Christian Heritage 30-22, 19-30, 30-26, 21-30,
15-13. Amanda Stevens led the Lady Cougars with 13 kills and 27
digs, while Katie Zipf finished with 13 kills, five blocks, and 11 digs.
Carrie McClelland added 11 kills and seven blocks, and Jenny Weaver served
up two aces. Katey Percival handed out 47 assists, while Jeni
Vanderhoof posted 21 digs. Jessica Harding and Chelsea Knight also
pounded 11 and nine kills respectively.
October 31, vs. Trinity Christian
(IL) College
MVNU remained unbeaten in pool play at the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament as the seventh-seeded Lady
Cougars downed tenth-seeded Trinity Christian 30-19, 30-26, 30-26.
Jessica Harding smashed 15 kills with three blocks, while Carrie McClelland added
12 kills
and four blocks. Amanda Stevens posted 18
digs , and Katey Percival handed out 42 assists. Jenny
Weaver and Katie Zipf also recorded eight kills and four blocks apiece.
October 31, at Indiana Wesleyan University
The Lady Cougars successfully opened pool play at the 2002 National
Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament with a 24-30,
33-31, 30-25, 14-30, 15-8 upset of third-seeded Indiana Wesleyan, ranked
#21 in the NAIA. Carrie McClelland paced seventh-seeded MVNU with 13
kills and four blocks, while Jessica Harding smashed 10 kills.
Amanda Stevens (16), Jessica Adams (14), Jeni Vanderhoof (13), Jenny
Weaver (12) and Katey Percival (11) all reached double figures in digs, and
Percival also handed out 39
assists. Katie Zipf finished with 10 kills and three aces.
October 29, at Ohio Dominican
University
MVNU returned to its winning ways by sweeping Ohio Dominican 30-21, 30-20,
30-28 in American Mideast Conference South Division action. Katie
Zipf led the Lady Cougars by pounding 14 kills, while Carrie McClelland
smashed 11 kills. Jessica Harding added eight kills and two blocks,
and Jeni Vanderhoof also finished with a season-high eight kills.
Amanda Stevens posted a team-high 12 digs, while Katey Percival handed out
41 assists.
October 26, CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars dropped a hard-fought American Mideast Conference South
Division match to Cedarville University in five games by the scores of
26-30, 30-27, 23-30, 30-28, 13-15. Carrie McClelland led MVNU with
15 kills, 13 digs, seven blocks, and two aces, while Amanda Stevens
finished with 10 kills, five blocks, and 20 digs. Katie Zipf added
12 kills and 13 digs, and Jenny Weaver smashed eight kills. Katey
Percival recorded 11 digs and 49 assists, while Jessica Adams and Jeni
Vanderhoof posted 20 and 13 digs respectively.
October 26, UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE
MVNU swept Rio Grande 30-19, 30-17, 30-17 in an American Mideast
Conference South Division match as the Lady Cougars pounded 49 kills in
the three games. Amanda Stevens led the way with nine kills, while
Carrie McClelland and Katie Zipf added eight kills each. Chelsea
Knight finished with seven kills and a team-high three blocks, and Katey
Percival handed out 37 assists. Jenny Weaver also recorded six
kills.
October 23, at Shawnee State
University
The Lady Cougars returned to their winning ways with a 30-17, 30-24, 30-19
American Mideast Conference South Division victory at Shawnee State.
Amanda Stevens led the way with 10 kills, while Katie Zipf pounded nine
kills to go with a career-high eight blocks. Carrie McClelland also
finished with nine kills and five blocks, and Jessica Harding smashed
seven kills. Chelsea Knight recorded six kills, four blocks, and two
aces, while Katey Percival handed out 32 assists. Jeni Vanderhoof
also served up two aces.
October 22, WALSH UNIVERSITY
MVNU put forth a valiant effort, but the Lady Cougars fell to Walsh,
ranked tenth in the latest NAIA national poll, 25-30, 32-34, 30-17, 29-31
in an American Mideast Conference South Division match. Amanda
Stevens led the team with 12 kills, 17 digs, and four aces, while Jessica
Harding and Katie Zipf pounded 13 and 11 kills respectively. Carrie
McClelland finished with eight kills and seven blocks, and Chelsea Knight
added six blocks and three aces. Katey Percival handed out 42
assists to go with 12 digs, while Jeni Vanderhoof also posted 11 digs.
October 19, at Wheeling Jesuit (WV)
University
The Lady Cougars fell 23-30, 26-30, 25-30 at Wheeling Jesuit, an NCAA
Division II school, in non-conference action. Carrie McClelland led
the team with 16 kills and four blocks, while Jessica Harding added 10
kills and three blocks. Katey Percival handed out 39 assists, and
Jeni Vanderhoof and Amanda Stevens posted 13 and 11 digs respectively.
Stevens also pounded eight kills, while Bethany Anderson and Chelsea
Knight served up one ace each.
October 18, at Malone College
MVNU won the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region
Tournament with a 30-19, 30-18, 30-19 victory over the host Lady
Pioneers. Jessica Harding led the Lady Cougars with nine kills,
while Carrie McClelland added eight kills, five blocks, and three
aces. Amanda Stevens finished with seven kills and 11 digs, and
Chelsea Knight recorded five kills and five blocks. Katey Percival
tallied three aces, 11 digs, and 26 assists, while Katie Zipf served
up three aces. Jessica Adams also posted 10 digs.
October 18, vs. Geneva (PA) College
The Lady Cougars opened play at the National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region Tournament at Malone College with a 30-21, 30-28,
30-15 victory over Geneva. Carrie McClelland led MVNU with 11 kills
and seven blocks, while Amanda Stevens finished with nine kills and 10
digs. Jessica Harding and Katie Zipf pounded six and five kills
respectively, and Megan Daugherty served up a team-high four aces.
Katey Percival also handed out 30 assists to go with a career-high five
kills.
October 16, at Urbana University
MVNU pulled out a hard-fought American Mideast Conference South Division
victory with a 30-18, 30-26, 28-30, 28-30, 15-9 win at Urbana.
Carrie McClelland posted a triple-double with 16 kills, 12 digs, and a
career-high 14 blocks. Katie Zipf added 10 kills and seven blocks,
while Jessica Harding finished with nine kills and five blocks.
Amanda Stevens recorded eight kills and 16 digs, and Katey Percival
tallied three aces and 48 assists. Megan Daugherty also contributed
a career-high 12 digs.
October 12, SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars fell to Shawnee State University 25-30, 30-27, 26-30,
30-23, 12-15 in American Mideast Conference South Division action as MVNU
lost at home for the first time in 78 regular-season conference
matches. The team's last conference loss in the Physical Education
Center came on October 8, 1991 against Walsh University. Amanda
Stevens and Jessica Harding each pounded 14 kills with Stevens adding a
team-high 16 digs, while Carrie McClelland finished with 11 kills, 10
digs, and five aces. Katie Zipf tallied nine kills and a career-high
eight blocks, and Chelsea Knight recorded eight kills and nine
blocks. Katey Percival also contributed 14 digs, four blocks, and 48
assists, while Jeni Vanderhoof posted 10 digs.
October 10, TIFFIN UNIVERSITY
MVNU extended its winning streak to four consecutive matches with a 30-15,
30-18, 30-25 American Mideast Conference South Division victory over
Tiffin. Carrie McClelland and Katie Zipf each smashed eight kills,
while Amanda Stevens, Jeni Vanderhoof, Jessica Harding, and Chelsea Knight
pounded five kills apiece. Stevens served up a team-high three aces,
and Katey Percival finished with 38 assists and a team-high five
blocks. Jenny Weaver also posted four blocks.
October 8, OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars won their third straight American Mideast Conference
South Division match as MVNU swept Ohio Dominican 30-11, 30-22, 30-28 in
conference play. Chelsea Knight led the way with seven kills and
eight blocks, while Katie Zipf pounded eight kills with four blocks.
Amanda Stevens recorded six kills, four blocks, four aces, and 10 digs,
and Jenny Weaver and Jessica Harding each smashed six kills. Katey
Percival also handed out 33 assists to go along with four kills.
October 5, at Cedarville University
MVNU rallied for a hard-fought American Mideast Conference South Division
win at Cedarville as the Lady Cougars prevailed 21-30, 30-25, 25-30,
30-28, 15-11. Jessica Harding pounded a team-high 17 kills to lead
the way, while Katie Zipf added 10 kills, 13 digs, six blocks, and three
aces. Amanda Stevens recorded a career-high 11 kills and 12 digs,
and Carrie McClelland finished with seven kills and four blocks.
Katey Percival handed out 50 assists to go with five kills and 17 digs,
while Jessica Adams posted a career-high 11 digs.
October 5, vs. University of Rio
Grande
The Lady Cougars handed head coach Paul Swanson the 650th victory of his
20-year coaching career as MVNU swept Rio Grande 30-14, 30-21, 30-24 in an
American Mideast Conference South Division match at Cedarville
University. Katie Zipf led the team with 16 kills and three aces,
while Amanda Stevens finished with nine kills. Katey Percival
tallied 35 assists and 10 digs, and Bethany Anderson posted a career-high
nine digs. Jenny Weaver recorded six kills, while Carrie McClelland
became the 14th player in the program's history to reach the 1,000-kill
mark for her career.
October 1, at Walsh University
MVNU fell to Walsh, ranked #9 in the NAIA, in American Mideast Conference
South Division play by the scores of 30-20, 30-16, 30-20. Chelsea
Knight led the team with five kills and four blocks, while Carrie
McClelland and Jessica Harding also pounded five kills apiece. Katey
Percival also handed out 21 assists to go along with a team-high seven
digs.
September 26, MALONE COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars picked up an important American Mideast Conference South
Division win as MVNU downed Malone 33-31, 19-30, 30-26, 31-29.
Carrie McClelland led the Lady Cougars with 18 kills and three blocks,
while Jessica Harding finished with 15 kills and a team-high four
blocks. Katey Percival handed out 50 assists with three kills, and
Katie Zipf recorded 13 kills and a career-high 15 digs. Amanda
Stevens and Jenny Weaver posted 17 and 14 digs respectively, while Chelsea
Knight added seven kills.
September 24, at Tiffin University
MVNU successfully opened up defense of its conference title as the Lady
Cougars rallied for a 24-30, 32-30, 30-26, 30-24 American Mideast
Conference South Division victory at Tiffin. Carrie McClelland led
the team with 15 kills, 15 digs, and two blocks, while Katie Zipf added 14
kills, 13 digs, and three blocks. Jenny Weaver pounded eight kills,
and Amanda Stevens and Jessica Harding finished with seven kills
apiece. Katey Percival handed out 49 assists, while Jeni Vanderhoof
posted 11 digs.
September 21, vs. Saint Xavier (IL) University
The Lady Cougars dropped a hard-fought five-game match to Saint Xavier at
the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational by the scores of 24-30,
32-30, 30-24, 27-30, 12-15. Jessica Harding led MVNU with 17 kills
and four blocks, while Carrie McClelland added 15 kills, 15 digs, and
three aces. Katie Zipf finished with 12 digs and four blocks, and

MVNU swept Spring Arbor 30-17, 30-16, 30-25 at the Indiana Wesleyan
University Invitational. Katie Zipf led the Lady Cougars with 10

pounded eight and seven kills respectively, while Amanda Stevens finished

Wesleyan University
The Lady Cougars fell to host Indiana Wesleyan at the Lady Wildcats'
Invitational by the scores of 30-22, 17-30, 21-30, 15-30. Carrie
McClelland led the team with eight kills and 10 digs, while Jenny Weaver
smashed nine kills. Amanda Stevens and Jeni Vanderhoof each posted
11 digs, and Katie Zipf recorded eight kills and two blocks. Katey

20, vs. Cedarville University
MVNU won its fourth consecutive match as the Lady Cougars swept Cedarville
30-28, 30-26, 30-27 to open play at the Indiana Wesleyan University
Invitational. Katie Zipf led the team with 13 kills and four aces,
while Carrie McClelland finished with nine kills, four blocks, and 13
digs. Katey Percival handed out 37 assists, and Jenny Weaver
recorded 10 digs and two aces. Chelsea Knight also posted seven
kills and a team-high seven blocks.
September 17, vs. John Carroll University
The Lady Cougars ran their winning streak to three straight with a sweep
of John Carroll at Ursuline College by the scores of 30-24, 30-25,
30-25. Katie Zipf smashed 13 kills to lead MVNU, and Carrie
McClelland added 12 kills, five blocks, and three aces. Jessica
Harding finished with 10 kills, while Katey Percival recorded 11 digs and
42 assists. Jeni Vanderhoof also posted a team-high 14 digs.
September 14, ROBERTS WESLEYAN (NY)
COLLEGE
MVNU closed out the Pizza Hut Invitational with a 27-30, 30-25, 30-17,
30-26 victory over Roberts Wesleyan. Katie Zipf led the team with 17
kills, 10 digs, and three blocks, while Jessica Harding tallied 15 kills
and three blocks. Jenny Weaver smashed a career-high 13 kills, and
Carrie McClelland finished with 11 kills and three aces. Katey
Percival handed out 49 assists to go with 11 digs, while Chelsea Knight
led the team with four blocks. For
their efforts over the weekend, Zipf and Percival were named to the
All-Tournament Team.
September 14, HOUGHTON (NY) COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars returned to their winning ways by rallying for a
hard-fought victory over Houghton 25-30, 30-14, 30-26, 31-33, 15-11 in the
Pizza Hut Invitational. Carrie McClelland led the way with 17 kills
and six blocks, while Katie Zipf added 13 kills, five blocks, and a
school-record-tying seven aces. Jessica Harding smashed 16 kills,
and Chelsea Knight posted a team-high seven blocks. Katey Percival
handed out 54 assists along with 15 digs, while Jenny Weaver finished with
nine kills and a career-high 24 digs. Amanda Stevens also recorded
12 digs.
September 13, UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL)
MVNU had its winning streak snapped at nine straight as the Lady Cougars
dropped a hard-fought match to Saint Francis in the Pizza Hut Invitational
by the scores of 26-30, 30-25, 23-30, 30-20, 8-15. Chelsea Knight
led the team with a career-high 14 blocks as MVNU set a new school record
with 31 total blocks. Carrie McClelland added 14 kills and 10
blocks, while Katie Zipf posted 14 kills and six blocks. Jessica
Harding also smashed 12 kills, and Amanda Stevens and Jenny Weaver tallied
17 and 12 digs respectively. Katey Percival also recorded eight
blocks, 13 digs, and 48 assists and notched her 1,000th career assist in the match.
September 13, MARIAN (IN) COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars opened play at the Pizza Hut Invitational with a 30-22,
30-22, 30-20 victory over Marian for the team's ninth straight win.
Jessica Harding smashed 13 kills to lead MVNU, while Katie Zipf added 10
kills and two aces. Jenny Weaver finished with seven kills, and
Katey Percival recorded 12 digs and a team-high 36 assists. Carrie
McClelland also contributed eight kills and a team-high five blocks.
September 11, at Capital University
MVNU, ranked #25 in the latest NAIA national poll, won its eighth straight
match as the Lady Cougars won a hard-fought non-conference contest at
Capital 30-25, 23-30, 30-27, 27-30, 15-11. Jessica Harding and Katie
Zipf pounded 18 and 17 kills respectively to lead the team, while Jenny
Weaver added 12 kills and 18 digs. Jeni Vanderhoof also tallied 18
digs, and Carrie McClelland finished with 11 kills, 10 digs, and three
blocks. Weaver, Amanda Stevens, and Katey Percival each served up
two aces, while Percival handed out 56 assists to go with 10 digs.
September 7, CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to seven in a row by
sweeping Central State 30-8, 30-10, 30-22 in a non-conference match.
MVNU set a new school record with 22 aces in the match with Jessica Adams
leading the way with six aces and 10 of the 12 players who dressed had at
least one ace. Jenny Weaver smashed eight kills, while Carrie
McClelland and Megan Daugherty finished with six kills apiece.
Teresa Diefenbacher led the team with
two blocks, and Diefenbacher and Bethany Anderson each recorded five
kills. Adams also handed out a team-high 19 assists in the match.
September 7, OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY-NEWARK
MVNU won its sixth straight match as the Lady Cougars swept Ohio
State-Newark 30-17, 30-21, 30-7 in a non-conference match. Jessica
Harding pounded a team-high nine kills to lead the team, while Katie Zipf
finished with six kills, three blocks, and two aces. Carrie
McClelland and Jenny Weaver each smashed four kills with McClelland
serving up a team-high three aces. Chelsea Knight recorded a
team-high five blocks to go along with two aces and four kills, and Jeni
Vanderhoof and Amber Thorne tallied five and four kills respectively.
Katey Percival also handed out 32 assists in the match.
September 5, NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
The Lady Cougars won their 2002 home opener as MVNU swept Notre Dame
30-22, 30-9, 30-16 in a non-conference match. Carrie McClelland led
the team with 15 kills and three blocks, while Jessica Harding and Katie
Zipf finishe with 10 and seven kills respectively. Chelsea Knight and Jenny Weaver smashed four kills apiece, and
Katey Percival
handed out 38 assists. Percival also served for 13 straight points
in the second game, while Jessica Adams served for 10 straight points in
the third game.
September 3, at Kenyon College
MVNU won its fourth straight match as the Lady Cougars swept Knox County
rival Kenyon 30-24, 30-14, 30-28 in a non-conference match. Katie
Zipf led the way with 11 kills and four blocks, while Carrie McClelland
and Amanda Stevens each finished with nine kills and three blocks. Jessica Harding,

posted three blocks, and Harding served up a team-high two aces. Katey Percival

August 31, vs. Ohio Wesleyan University
The Lady Cougars extended their winning streak to three straight matches
as MVNU swept Ohio Wesleyan 30-11, 30-16, 30-18 to finish second at the Earlham (IN) College
Invitational. Carrie McClelland led the way by smashing 17 kills in
22 attempts with no errors to post a school-record .773 attack percentage
for the match. Jenny Weaver and Chelsea Knight led the team with
three blocks apiece with Weaver recording 11 digs and Knight adding two
aces and five kills. Katey Percival finished with five kills and 28

August 31, vs. Capital University
MVNU swept Capital 30-23, 30-25, 30-20 at the Earlham (IN) College
Invitational. Carrie McClelland led the team with 11 kills, 11 digs,
and four blocks, while Katie Zipf pounded a team-high 15 kills.
Jessica Harding smashed 11 kills, and Jenny Weaver tallied nine
digs. Katey Percival also handed out a team-high 37 assists.
August 30, at Earlham (IN) College
The Lady Cougars rebounded from their first loss to sweep Earlham 30-10,
30-11, 30-19 in the Lady Quakers' Invitational. Carrie McClelland
and Chelsea Knight pounded eight and six kills respectively, while Jessica
Harding and Katie Zipf served up four aces apiece. Katey Percival
handed out a team-high 20 assists, and Amanda Stevens and Jenny Weaver
posted three blocks each with Stevens adding 12 assists.
August 30, vs. Franklin (IN) College
MVNU suffered its first loss of the 2002 season as the Lady Cougars
dropped a hard-fought match at the Earlham (IN) College Invitational by
the scores of 30-22, 26-30, 30-23, 29-31, 14-16 to Franklin, the eventual
tournament champions. Katie Zipf pounded a career-high 20 kills to
go along with 11 digs and three aces. Chelsea Knight added 12 kills
and six blocks, while Jessica Harding and Jenny Weaver finished with 11
and seven kills respectively. Amanda Stevens posted a career-high 24
digs, and Katey Percival tallied 19 digs and a season-high 51
assists. Jeni Vanderhoof also recorded 13 digs.
August 29, at Spalding (KY) University
The Lady Cougars used a balanced attack to defeat host Spalding 30-23,
30-26, 28-30, 30-24 in a hard-fought non-conference match. Carrie
McClelland led the team with 12 kills, 13 digs, and eight blocks, while
Katey Percival added 14 digs and 30 assists. Katie Zipf tallied 12
kills and a career-high six aces, and Jenny Weaver posted a career-high 12
digs. Jessica Harding recorded nine kills and four blocks, while
Chelsea Knight led contributed five blocks.
August 29, vs. Kentucky Wesleyan College
MVNU successfully began the 2002 season as the Lady Cougars swept Kentucky
Wesleyan 30-15, 30-15, 30-18 in a non-conference match at Spalding (KY)
University as all 13 players contributed to the victory. Carrie
McClelland led the team with 10 kills, while Katie Zipf added eight kills
and five aces. Katey Percival finished with 12 digs, four blocks,
and 32 assists, and Amber Thorne recorded career highs with four blocks,
four kills, four aces, and eight digs. Amanda Stevens led the team
with six blocks, while Chelsea Knight also served up three aces.
