Lady Cougar Volleyball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2011 season, MVNU junior setter Lauren Percival will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Playing Together" (posted on October 19, 2011)

Well, it seems as if this blog is not going to be very long. Although we have had two weeks worth of games to report on, I am only going to tell you about one. The other games just were not important in the grand scheme of our season, thus I will proceed.

Our home game against St. Francis last weekend was an awesome game to be at. The last time we played them, we beat them in an intense five-set match. We knew that we had to beat them again to prove that our last match was not an accident. We did SO well during the match. Our energy was high, and we never gave up no matter if we were ahead or behind. We ended up dominating them in three sets, and we were playing so well together and being so scrappy. We played great volleyball.

This week I am going to introduce a transfer student so although she is a junior she is new to our campus. Our new outside hitter from Mount Gilead Christian High School and Malone University is #16 Erika Votaw. Yes, she is Kendra Votaw's sister, but they are definitely not twin sisters. Erika is very outgoing and spunky. She is not afraid to speak her mind and is always laughing which brings up the mood on our team so much. We can always count on her to be A) dancing, B) singing, or C) telling a story. She is so fun to be around and has really been a great addition to our team. It is always funny to watch sister fights during the van rides sometimes as well. She has really stepped up her play also. After her sister getting hurt, we have really had to learn to depend on the other hitters more, and she has been a great asset when it comes to blocking and hitting. Coming from the Malone volleyball team, I know that it must be hard to transfer schools, but I really hope that she feels at home with us now because she doesn't have only one sister on the team, she has eleven (corny, I know). I love you Erika!

We have a huge week coming up with three home games. We play Grace on Wednesday, then Taylor on Friday, and Huntington on Saturday. All are going to be great teams and great matches to watch. I highly suggest that you come out and watch because every fan matters and makes a difference. We will be coming out with a vengeance against Grace after losing to them in five sets last time we met. Hope to see you all there and always remember to stay classy MVNU!
