Happy Halloween Week! This past week was
a good week for the Lady Cougars. On
Thursday, we traveled three hours to beat an
extremely competitive Carlow team in three
games. Saturday was a big day for us. We
faced Malone on their home court, and after
a very slow start in the first game, we came
out swinging in the next three games to beat
them in four. The Malone win guaranteed us a
spot in the AMC tournament in three weeks.
This win also put us one win away from
qualifying for the NCCAA National Tournament
in December. After the big Malone win, we
then faced Wooster and beat them in three
games. Following the games, we traveled to
Megan’s house in good ol' Amish country and
had some AMAZING food. Thanks Megan’s mom!
Sarah Yutzy (below on right)
is a junior middle hitter from West
Jefferson, Ohio. She wears number 16. On the
court, Yutzy is a very smart hitter. She is
more of a placement hitter than a power
hitter, which makes her a major threat on
the front line. She has a good variety in
her swings, keeping our opponents on their
toes every time she receives a set. On top
of her hitting, Yutzy is a solid blocker as
well. Coach has also challenged her at the
outside hitter position in past years, which
she took with great ease and excelled at as
well. Yutzy is a very smart and solid
volleyball player all around.

Off the court, Yutzy is always in the
middle of every punch line the girls come up
with. Coming in as a freshman, she was not
afraid to show her true colors at the very
beginning of the year as she decided to clip
her toe nails in the van on our trip to our
very first tournament. It is also an
experience to watch her eat a meal, and each
of the girls strives to beat her when it
comes to finishing a meal first. We have
also learned to make sure we ask Yutzy if
she wants any of our leftover food we cannot
eat because there is a very high chance she
will finish it for you! She is called by
many unique names on the team, none of which
are her first name. I think Yutzy’s
character is what I notice the most. She is
so full of life and spirit that none of us
can help but to want to be around her. She
is truly an asset to our team on and off the
court, and I am so lucky to have her as a
friend and a teammate.
