Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU senior setter Kaylin Austen will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Mid-term Break and Caitlin Myles" (posted on October 20, 2009)

My apologies that this blog is coming a day late. This past weekend was mid-term break for the Naz and one huge excuse to be lazy. Last Tuesday, we began our week of competition with rival Cedarville. It was a very intense game as we won in four. Saturday, we faced a doubleheader with Point Park and West Liberty. The volleyball girls played a great game against a very competitive and talented Point Park team pulling out a victory in four. We then faced West Liberty and won in three. This week is an aggressive week for us as we travel to Pennsylvania to play Carlow on Thursday followed by an away tri-match with Malone and Wooster on Saturday. We, as always, thank all of you for your support as you follow along with us the rest of this season.

Caitlin Myles (below in center) is a junior defensive specialist from Centerburg, Ohio. She wears jersey #11. Caitlin strives to be the best she can be at her position. She constantly leaves me in amazement during games in which she digs a nearly impossible ball. Caitlin’s serves are wicked and I pity anyone who is on the receiving end of one of them. In games, most people would think not to be worried about a defensive specialist being a weapon when it comes to attacking. However, they would be wrong to think that of Caitlin. She is not afraid to step up and take a back row attack every now and then. On the court, Caitlin has what I like to call quiet motivation. On the outside, she looks calm and collected, but on the inside she wants the next point just as much as the rest of us. Most of all, I love setting Caitlin in practice. She is fearless when it comes to running quick sets and she pounds them. Caitlin is my short, little beast!

When I first met Caitlin, she was very quiet. Three years later, it is hard to remember that Caitlin. She is full of life and is constantly laughing at whatever the daily joke is for the volleyball team. Caitlin is a nursing major, so there are many long days for her being in clinicals and heading straight to practice. Her sister, Camaranne, is on the basketball team here, so be sure to check their season out once volleyball season is over. Caitlin is an all-around amazing person, one that I truly feel blessed to have gotten to share these past three seasons with. She will do great things on and off the volleyball court.
