Lady Cougar Volleyball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU senior setter Kaylin Austen will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Introducing Freshman Kaylee Hewitt" (posted on September 7, 2009)

Starting this week, I will be introducing you to one of my teammates each week. I decided to start with the freshmen because they are least important to our team. JUST KIDDING! So, this week’s blog belongs to freshman Kaylee Hewitt.

On the court, Kaylee is a right-side hitter and wears jersey #6. However so far this season, she has found her place as a back row player and is establishing herself quite nicely there. It would be nerve-wracking for most freshmen to step in their first year and start as a back row player, however I am amazed at how well Kaylee has settled into her role. She strives for every pass to be perfect, and I laugh every time that she apologizes for making me take even one step to set the ball. She is an excellent server and even I cringe when I have to pass one of her serves in practice. Kaylee is a solid player already, and I cannot wait to see how much she grows as a competitor this season.

Kaylee is the only out-of-state player as she is coming to us from Alanson, Michigan. Yes, she is a Michigan Wolverine fan and myself being a huge Ohio State fan, it poses the only problem in our friendship. We have already started the playful smack talking about each of our teams, and we have established that November 21, 2009 will be judgment day for our friendship. Just kidding! But seriously, GO BUCKEYES! After this volleyball season, she is set to be on the softball team so needless to say with her Biology major she will be a very busy girl this year. Kaylee is a joy to be around, and I feel very lucky to have her not only as a teammate but also as a friend for my final year at MVNU.
