Lady Cougar Volleyball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU senior setter Kaylin Austen will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Regular-Season Finale and Julie Haumschild" (posted on November 9, 2009)

This past week wrapped up the regular season for Lady Cougar volleyball. We traveled to Malone for a win against Geneva in three to qualify for the NCCAA tournament. On Thursday, we celebrated Senior Night as Walsh came to town. We had played Walsh earlier in the season and lost in five, so that night was our night to play with fire and heart. It was an unbelievable match as we won in four very close and intense games. Everything clicked in for us and every one of us was essential to the win. With the win against Walsh, we finished second in the AMC allowing us to host the conference tournament this weekend. I just want to say thank you to all the students and fans who came out to support us in our last regular-season game. All of your support means more to us than you will ever know.

With Senior Night finished, I thought it was convenient that this blog is the start of the introduction of the seniors. Julie Haumschild is a senior outside hitter from Warsaw, Ohio. She wears #13. Julie has been with our team for only three years because she played basketball at Mount Vernon her freshman year. So, it is safe to say that she is a very athletic and talented player. From the first day Julie joined our team, she has done nothing but improve. Coach has challenged her in many ways and she has passed with flying colors every time. She is a valuable weapon to our team because not only can she hammer the ball, she also knows when to switch up her hits which leave our opponents off balance.

Off the floor, Julie loves to make everyone happy. We give her a hard time because it seems like everywhere we travel she knows someone. We no more than step off the van and she is saying "hi” and giving a hug to someone. She is a very approachable person and constantly has a smile on her face leaving it hard to not love her personality and character. Julie is our country girl. We went to her house during training camp and got acquainted with her llamas and took a hay ride. Julie is majoring in environmental science. I feel so blessed that Julie and I got to share not only volleyball experiences but college experiences as well. She is truly an amazing person and she will do great things in her life.
