Throughout the course of the 2011 season, MVNU
junior defender Damon Yoder will write a weekly blog about what is
happening with the team. "Rough
Patch" (posted on

There are those days where you feel like
everything is going right and you are at the
top of your game, and then the unexpected
happens. We had that situation for seven
games straight. It all started at Cedarville
when we were up against Milligan (Tenn.) and
lost 4-1. Then, for the next six games, we
never had a break from the losing. There was
a word that Coach drilled into our heads and
we laugh about it, but it fits completely.
The word is "Chutzpah," which means supreme
confidence. We remembered this word when we
got scored on first, then some would think
"oh no, here we go again." But this past
Saturday against Spring Arbor was a Chutzpah
moment.
We started the game
dominating play and had one brain lapse that
caused us to face a 1-0 deficit. We hadn't
come from behind all season, but we
remembered that word and it rang in our
heads over and over again. We started the
second half down 1-0, but we were off to the
races. Chris Allen started off the force
with a strike on a through ball and we were
back in it. Not much later, Josh Thomas
landed a header on a restart to boost our
confidence. Then Chris again buried one with
less than 10 minutes left and we held on for
the win.
Chutzpah finally impacted us
in this game and now our next goal is at
Goshen on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Our task
before last game was to win out the rest of
the season for a chance at Nationals and we
are one down and four to go.
