Throughout the course of the 2011 season, MVNU
junior defender Damon Yoder will write a weekly blog about what is
happening with the team. "Hottest
Games of the Year" (posted on
September 7, 2011)
This past weekend the Men's Soccer team
played Mountain State on Friday and
Campbellsville University on Saturday in our
Cougar Classic Weekend. We advanced with two
wins, but received second place from a goal
differential of one point to Lee University.
Despite having a great weekend and now
having a record of 3-1, those two games were
the hottest games to be played thus far.
I heard from an anonymous fan that on
Friday during the game it was said to be 114
degrees on the field. The sun was beating
down on us while we trounced Mountain State
10-0 with goals coming as a wide array
across the roster. The next day it was a 1-0
game where Kwame Appiah scored in the first
half and we held on for the rest of the
game. (Make
sure to check out the team's video highlight
page to see all 11 goals for the weekend.)
This past week classes started and for
many of the athletes it means a new
beginning whether it is is trying harder
this time around or their first year trying
to balance time with soccer and classes.
Coming in as a freshman, there is never the
thought that you have to wisely balance your
time to succeed. Student-athletes figure
that balance out very quickly. I currently
have three day planners just to make sure
that I stick to it and don't get off track.
Most of the players live in the library
or in their own quiet student corners all
over campus with all of the soccer team
doing their part to stay on top of their
studies and raise our team GPA to a 3.38.
That is the goal as of now to get it that
high.
Thanks for reading and learning
a little about our team "behind the scenes"
and continue to come out and support your
Cougars as they travel to Cedarville on
Friday and Saturday.
