MARION, Ind. (4-7-2012) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's fastpitch softball team saw its losing streak reach 10 games as the Lady Cougars dropped a pair of games at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 8-4 and 8-3 in Mid-Central College Conference play.

The first game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the host Lady Wildcats (31-7, 9-1 MCC) pushed across an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning, Indiana Wesleyan strung together four hits and a sacrifice fly to plate four runs and extend its lead to 5-0.

MVNU (6-17, 0-8 MCC) trimmed the lead to 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning when junior second baseman Brittney Kuhn drove in a pair of runs with a two-out, two-run double, and freshman outfielder/catcher Morgan Wade followed with a two-run home run - her team-leading third of the season.

However, the Lady Wildcats responded with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase the lead back to 8-4, and the Lady Cougars went out in order in the top of the seventh inning to end the game.

Sophomore right-hander Ashley Riffell (2-7) took the loss for MVNU as she gave up 10 hits, three walks, and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings with five strikeouts.

Abbie Forman (23-3) earned the win as she scattered eight hits, one walk, and four runs over seven innings with seven strikeouts.

Kuhn, senior outfielder MacKenzie Shaw, and senior outfielder Jenn Gulley each had two hits to lead the Lady Cougars, while Kristina Ross led Indiana Wesleyan with three hits and Tamara Davis, Jessica Hull, and Dana Runyon recorded two hits apiece.

In the second game, the Lady Wildcats built a 3-0 lead through four innings before MVNU pulled within 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of unearned runs thanks to a throwing error by Indiana Wesleyan.

However, the Lady Wildcats responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead back to 7-2. Both teams scored a run in their turn at bat in the sixth inning with the Lady Cougars' run coming on junior Jill Wildermuth's leadoff homer - the first of her career - as Indiana Wesleyan prevailed 8-3.

Senior right-hander Meagan Stott (0-4) took the loss for MVNU as she allowed 12 hits, one walk, and seven runs over five innings. Riffell tossed the final inning and gave up two hits and one unearned run.

Meanwhile, Forman notched her second win of the day as she scattered five hits, two walks, and three runs (only one earned) over seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Wildermuth, who played first base for the first time in her college career, led the Lady Cougars with a pair of hits, while Hull, Forman, and Kelsey Decker each collected three hits apiece to lead the Lady Wildcats.

MVNU will look to snap their losing streak on Tuesday when the Lady Cougars return home to host a non-conference doubleheader against Malone University after playing 18 straight road games. First pitch of game one is slated for 3 p.m.
