MVNU moved in front 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning when junior catcher Caitlin Murphy drove in a run with a double and junior shortstop Tasha Konkle and junior first baseman Michelle Gastin (left) each added an RBI-single.

The score remained that way until the top of the seventh inning when an error helped allow the Lady Pioneers to plate four runs and take a 5-3 advantage. Abbie Heigel had the big blow in the inning with a bases-loaded, three-run double. Julie Campbell also had an RBI-single in the frame.

Not to be out-done, the Lady Cougars answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the game 6-5 in walk-off fashion. Junior outfielder Lauretta Wallace and freshman outfielder MacKenzie Shaw each singled and sophomore second baseman Kristin Kurelic walked to load the bases with no outs. Konkle followed with an RBI-single to leftfield and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to knot the score at 5-5. Gastin then doubled in Kurelic with the winning run.

Senior right-hander Candace White (6-6) earned the complete game win for MVNU as she scattered nine hits, one walk, and five unearned runs over seven innings. She also struck out seven batters.

Heigel (5-4) suffered the loss for Point Park as she gave up 10 hits, two walks, and six runs. She also struck out one batter.

Offensively, Gastin led the Lady Cougars by going 3-for-4, while Konkle and Wallace had two hits apiece. Heigel and Ashley Braeudigam each had two hits apiece to pace Point Park with Heigel driving in three runs.

After the Lady Pioneers knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning on a run-scoring single by Courtney Cain, the Lady Cougars regained the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning. MVNU had four singles in the inning with junior outfielder Lesley Banichar (right) driving in the one run.
