Lady Cougar Softball Blog

Throughout the course of the 2012 season, MVNU senior outfielder MacKenzie Shaw will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the softball team.

"Easter" (posted on April 10, 2012)

The MVNU softball team had another busy week of softball this past week. We headed to Indiana once again for a weekend of ball. If you are wondering when we are having our next home game, I PROMISE it is coming...this week actually! We have been on the road a little more than we would have liked the past three weeks. Thursday night before we left for Indiana, we had a team dinner at my house. Not only did we have an amazing meal prepared by the best woman in the world, my mom, we had the first annual Cougie Easter egg hunt! This Easter egg hunt consisted of girls ranging in age from 4-22. Needless to say, we had a lot of good laughs!

Friday morning we headed in Indiana to take on Taylor for some more conference play. We fought a hard battle in the first game losing 1-0. We ended up losing the second game 8-0. We were feeling a little defeated as we returned to the hotel. We had a great devotional time led by freshman Morgan Wade. It really helped put things into perspective and encouraged us to stick together as a team. There were definitely some late night giggles in our hotel rooms that night! The nights that we spend in hotels seem to be where the most team bonding occurs! Saturday afternoon we took on Indiana Wesleyan. Again we played hard, but lost both games to Indiana Wesleyan. We were able to head home from another tough weekend and spend some time at home with our families for Easter!

Let me introduce you to some more of my teammates!

Kara Morrison is a sophomore shortstop from Bellefontaine, Ohio majoring in sports management and exercise studies. Kara says her biggest fear is failure and the best song that describes her is Jesus Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood because she has been working hard on letting God control her life!

Kara Morrison Ashley Riffell

Ashley Riffell is our final sophomore who pitches from Hamilton, Ohio majoring in nursing. Ashley says her biggest fear is that one of the Criminal Minds episodes might become real and she would get stolen from her apartment. The best song that describes her is I'm Not Who I Was by Brandon Heath because God is changing her life into someone that he has created instead of who she was making herself!

Kelsey Berryman is our first junior from Fairfield, Ohio majoring in Middle Childhood Education. Kelsey holds down third base for us! Kels says her biggest fear is losing a loved one and the song that best describes her is You Won't Relent because it speaks so much truth!

Kelsey Berryman Jill Wildermuth

Jill Wildermuth is a junior pitcher from Indian Lake, Ohio majoring in Secondary Math Education. Jill's biggest fear is spiders and the song that best describes her is Stand by Rascal Flatts because it makes her appreciate what she has and to keep going when times get tough!

We have another tough week ahead of us, but we are ready! We take on Malone at home on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. We head to Spring Arbor for our last road trip of the season on Thursday. Then, we come back home on Saturday to take on Goshen beginning at 1 p.m. We are ready to play on our home turf! We would love to see you at some of our games this week! Go Cougars!
