"The Season Comes to an End" (posted on May 9, 2011)

Hello again Cougar Nation!

Unfortunately, this is the final blog I will be writing to you for the 2011 softball season. This season has been a tough season for the Lady Cougars record-wise. We played our final conference games this weekend. On Friday, we took on Notre Dame for our annual Senior Day and Crush Cancer game. The first game was a tough loss for us as we fell 4-3 in 8 innings. Melissa Eickholt did hit her first homerun of the season, though! In the second game, we played hard once again, but came up short losing 8-1. We honored our three seniors on Friday and helped raise money for Relay for Life. Although we fell short to Notre Dame, it was a great day for us. We played well in both games, but knew we had two more conference games we needed to win the next day.

On Saturday, we took our final road trip to Ursuline. We came out CRUSHING the ball in the first game against Ursuline! We beat them 9-3 the first game. Meagan Stott got her first win of the year and Kaylee Hewitt blasted a homerun! In the second game, we once again came out playing our best. We beat Ursuline 13-1. Jenn Gulley tied the school record by going 5-for-5 in the second game and Steph Burlew got her final win of her Cougar career on the mound. It was a great way to end our season. Oh, and we got Chipotle on the way home which made everything that much better!

Although our record wasn't the best, it was a great season. We learned a lot about ourselves throughout the season. We never gave up as a team and we continued to fight. It is going to be tough to say good-bye to our seniors this year They have been a great group of girls to play with! We have a lot to work on in the off season. Next year is a new year with new expectations.

I appreciate all the support that you all have given us throughout the year this year! It has been an honor to be able to keep you up to date weekly about our progress. Thanks again for reading every week. Just a shout out to the baseball team who will be traveling to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round this week, GOOD LUCK BOYS!

Thanks again for all your support!

Go Cougars!

MacKenzie (:
