Cougar Basketball Coach

Scott Flemming is entering his seventeenth season at the helm of the Cougar basketball program. During his sixteen seasons at MVNU, Flemming has compiled an overall record of 326-202 (.617 winning percentage), the most wins of any coach in the program's 38-year history.

Over the past 10 seasons, MVNU has compiled an impressive 227-101 mark (.692). The Cougars have won one National Christian College Athletic Association national title (2002), finished as the NCCAA national runner-up (2004), and finished third at another NCCAA National Tournament.  The team has also made four appearances in the NAIA Division II National Tournament during that span (1998, 1999, 2000, and 2006).  In addition, MVNU has won three American Mideast Conference Tournament titles and earned the program's first regular-season conference title. The team has also consistently been ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top 25 poll.

For his efforts in guiding the Cougars, Flemming has earned two National Coach of the Year awards (NAIA Division II in 1998 and NCCAA in 2000). He was also the Mid-Ohio Conference Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1998.  He has had 10 different players earn NAIA Division II All-American honors during his tenure at MVNU and 14 different players have scored 1,000 or more career points.  He has also had 14 different players earn NAIA Division II All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, and four players have gone on to play professionally overseas.

After serving as an assistant coach at both Wheaton (Ill.) College and the University of South Alabama, an NCAA Division I school, and then as the head coach at Nyack (N.Y.) College where he posted a 43-47 mark in three years, Flemming returned to MVNU in 1990. In addition to coaching, he is also the school's athletic director.

Flemming, who is a native of Akron and a 1980 graduate of MVNU, resides in Mount Vernon with his wife, Chawn, and their three children, Preston, Bryn, and Victoria.
