Good Evening Cougar Nation!
It has been a busy few weeks here at the
Naz. Our Cougar team has been rocking and
rolling, though, and we’re ready for
December to be here. The Ashland game was
great for our team. Last year, we went to
Ashland and the entire atmosphere felt like
we did not even deserve to play on their
floor. Ask any of the guys about last year’s
game and they will tell you it was almost a
joke. We battled hard, but Ashland came up
with the victory. This year, on our floor,
it was our team and it was our time! The
Neon Night crowd was intense from start to
finish! The gym was packed and the Cougars
came out roaring! We battled from start to
finish to make sure no one had any doubt
what we were made of. Adam Grimm took flight
over Brandon Short and two Ashland defenders
for what is the Dunk of the Year, voted on
by the team. RT (Rob Taylor) played an
awesome game. It felt like he couldn’t be
stopped on the offensive end and it felt
like Grimm and Bryce grabbed every rebound.
If you were able to attend the game or were
listening to it on the radio, I do have to
make one personal comment. There was a point
in the first half were I took a charge on
Ashland’s post player. If you were at the
game you know the entire team, including
myself and the coaches were laughing
hysterically. There is a reason why we were
laughing. In shoot-around earlier that day
Coach Moore made the statement, and I quote,
"If anyone takes a charge on Richardson,
I’ll buy them a steak dinner at my house.” I
took the charge and Coach knows I like my
T-bone steak medium well. ;-) Ashland was a
big win for the team! We needed the
confidence and the joy of getting a big win
this early in the season.
Last week, we made the long, very long
drive to Michigan Dearborn for a very
interesting game. The battle started off
with everything except the kitchen sink
being thrown at us. First, we had a
four-hour drive, then we arrived late and
barely had any time to warm up. To top it
off, Coach Moore was not with us because his
wife was due to give birth at any time. Let
me tell you what, the first half was not a
pretty sight. Fortunately, we were still
able to escape with a nine-point halftime
lead with Robbie Taylor drilling a deep
three ball to walk off the court. During
half time, Coach Moore sent a text to the
assistant coaches and the entire team knew
it was time to bring the noise. Big Bryce
took over for us and
we started to play ball the second half.
With the exception of a few parents and
Super-Fan Mikey Albertson, the stands were
silent. After we play at Shawnee State on
Tuesday night, we are really excited to get to play
here at home this Friday and Saturday. I
hope if anyone is in town they are able to
come out and not only support the Cougars
but the Food for the Hungry this weekend.
