ALLIANCE, Ohio (9-17-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's golf team
finished sixth out of eight teams at the
Malone University Fall Golf Invitational
held at Tannenhauf Golf Course on Friday and
Saturday.
Host Malone won the two-day
event with a team total of 578 to finish
just two strokes over par and 10 shots ahead
of runner-up Holy Cross (Ind.) College
(588). Huntington (Ind.) University was
third at 593, Madonna (Mich.) University
carded a 595, and Spring Arbor (Mich.)
University shot a 615 to round out the top
five. The Cougars posted a 620 that included
a 309 on the second day.
Individually, Jordan Dawes of Huntington won
medalist honors as he finished tied with
Ryan Headley of Malone with a
three-under-par 141. Dawes won the title on
the first playoff hole. Junior Matt Crouch
led MVNU with a 147 to tie for sixth place
out of 52 golfers. Junior Randon McNeil was
one stroke back at 148, while freshman Brody
Harwell (159), sophomore Aaron Hale (166),
and sophomore Jake Lawson (177) rounded out
the lineup for the Cougars.
MVNU will
close out the fall portion of its schedule
on Friday and Saturday when the Cougars
travel to the Spring Arbor Invitational in
Jackson, Mich. at the Cascades Golf Course.
