The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
golf team finished fourth out of eight teams
at the Cougars' own MVNU
Invitational held at Apple Valley Golf
Course on Friday and Saturday.Cedarville
University posted a two-day total of 599 to
edge Malone College (600), which was ranked
No. 16 in the latest NAIA poll, by one
stroke to take the team title. Ohio
Dominican University was third at 607, while
MVNU finished with a 614 as the Cougars
claimed fourth place.
Individually,
Trevor Bowman from Cedarville fired a
two-day, three-under-par 141 to earn
medalist honors. MVNU senior Preston Knight
(left) was the individual
runner-up as he shot a one-under-par 143 to
earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Junior Tyler Tinch tied for 12th place
for the Cougars with a 153, while junior
Jared Schlabach shot a 155. Freshman Alex
Carroll carded a 163, and freshman Jay
Ruffner rounded out the scoring with a 168.
Junior Matt Kerns posted a solid two
rounds for MVNU playing as an at-large
player as he fired a 153 to tie for 12th
place individually. Freshman Cory Palmer
also shot a 160 as an at-large player.
The Cougars will be back in action on
April 18-19 when MVNU will take part in the
Malone College Invitational in Alliance,
Ohio. That will be the team’s final
regular-season tournament before taking part
in the American Mideast Conference/NAIA
Region IX Tournament on April 24-25.
