The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s
golf team finished second out of nine teams
at the two-day Cedarville University
Invitational that wrapped up on Tuesday at
Country Club of the North.
After
holding a two-stroke lead on the field
following Monday’s 297 at Beavercreek Golf
Club, the Cougars posted a 316 on the second
day to finish with a 613 - three strokes
behind the host Yellow Jackets (610). Ohio
Dominican University finished third at 614
in a battle between three teams who each
received votes in the most recent NAIA
national poll.
Individually, senior Anthony Savage
(left) earned medalist honors for
MVNU as he finished with a two-day,
five-over-par total of 149 to edge
Cedarville teammates Matt Krogstad and
Trevor Bowman, who each shot a 150. Senior Preston Knight was 11th with a 155,
and junior Tyler Tinch carded a 157 to
finish tied for 18th. Junior Jared Schlabach
rounded out the scoring with a 159 to tie
for 22nd out of 45 golfers. Senior Tim
Hepner shot a 72 on the first day, but he
was disqualified for the second round.
MVNU will look to continue its success on
the links on Friday and Saturday when the
Cougars will compete in the Capital
University Invitational held at Foxfire Golf
Club.
