Cougar Golf Coach
Mark Stiverson is entering his first season as the men's golf head coach at Mount Vernon
Nazarene University.
Stiverson, a 1977 graduate of MVNU, replaces Chris Huff, who accepted a
teaching position in the West Muskingum School District. Huff, who
served as the head coach in 2004-2005 and as an assistant coach for
three years prior to that, will continue to help Stiverson through the
fall semester to provide a seamless transition.
“Mark will be a great addition to our coaching staff,” said MVNU
athletic director Scott Flemming. “He is an alum who has demonstrated
his passion for MVNU and our athletic department in the past. He has
already established a relationship with many of the present golfers by
traveling with them on their spring trip last year. Mark will be a
tremendous role model, a hard-working coach, and a spiritual mentor to
our student-athletes.”
Stiverson, who was a member of the MVNU track and field team during his
college days, inherits a program with no seniors and two returning
juniors. However, he is excited about the team’s potential heading into
the new campaign.
“It is a great opportunity for me to be a part of the MVNU athletic
department,” said Stiverson, who lives in Apple Valley with his wife,
Cindy. “While golf is a sporting event, this also provides me with an
opportunity for ministry with college students. The guys on the team
have been working hard and I am looking forward to seeing them progress
throughout the year.”
