Mark Stiverson is entering his fourth season as the men's golf head coach at Mount Vernon
Nazarene University in 2008-2009.
Stiverson,
a 1977 graduate of MVNU, took over at the helm of the Cougars' golf
program for the 2005-2006 season. He guided the team to a 57-55
overall record during his first campaign as head coach. MVNU also
finished sixth out of 14 teams at the American Mideast Conference/NAIA
Region IX Tournament to cap off his first year.
During the 2006-2007 season, Stiverson, who
was a member of the MVNU track and field team during his college days,
led the Cougars to a 65-47-4 record. The team also finished
tied for fifth out of 25 teams at the National Christian College
Athletic Association national tournament and was sixth at the AMC/NAIA
Region IX Tournament once again.
During the 2007-2008 season, Stiverson and the Cougars posted a 70-35
overall record - the most wins and the best winning percentage since the
2003-2004 season. MVNU also finished 10th out of 23 teams at the
NCCAA National Tournament and placed fourth out of 10 teams at the
AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament.
“It is a great opportunity for me to be a part of the MVNU
athletic department,” said Stiverson, who lives in Apple Valley with his wife,
Cindy. “While golf is a sporting event, this also provides me with an
opportunity for ministry with college students. The guys on the team
have been working hard and I am looking forward to seeing them progress
throughout the year.”
