MVNU Cross Country Teams Compete at Kenyon Quad

GAMBIER, Ohio (9-1-2010) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's and women's cross country teams got their final preseason tune-up on Wednesday evening as they took part in the Kenyon College Quad Meet along with Denison University, Ohio Wesleyan University, and host Kenyon.

While team scores were not tabulated, individual times were kept in both races. The women ran a 4K course, while the men covered a 5K course.

In the women's race, freshman Abby Spitler had a good showing in her first collegiate event as she finished 10th out of 53 runners in a time of 16:01. The winning time in the race was turned in by Jenna Willett of Kenyon as she finished in 15:22. The rest of the MVNU roster consisted of sophomore Jessica Brant (16:38, 19th), junior Caitlin Campbell (17:03, 26th), freshman Alex Reasoner (17:16, 31st), sophomore Melissa Keiser (18:55, 44th), sophomore Bethany Parks (19:02, 47th), sophomore Amy Chappell (19:37, 49th), and freshman Katie Worthington (22:16, 51st).

In the men's race, junior Nate Winters was the top finisher for the Cougars as he came in 11th in a time of 16:54. Matt Davis of Kenyon won the 50-runner event in a time of 15:34. The rest of the MVNU roster consisted of freshman Jace Wolford (17:05, 12th), junior Kevin Poast (18:42, 37th), senior David Clark (18:45, 38th), freshman Sebastian Rue (18:49, 39th), sophomore Jacob Pessia (19:27, 44th), freshman Mitch McKenzie (19:32, 46th), senior Chaz Rice (19:39, 47th), sophomore Anthony Lee (19:59, 49th), and sophomore Mark Rednour (20:10, 50th).

The MVNU cross country teams will return to action with their first official races on September 11 at Walsh University. The women's race will start at 9:40 a.m. with the men's race to follow at 10 a.m.
