"Otterbein Race" (posted on September 29, 2011)

This season our women's team has had an interesting start. This past weekend we ran our third race of the season at Otterbein University. Our race at the Otterbein meet was a 6k instead of our usual 5k race. So, to begin this year, our first race was a 4k at Kenyon College, our second race was a 5k at Ohio Wesleyan University, and the last race we ran was a 6k at Otterbein University. We have been increasing our racing millage by 1k each time we go into race.

We will not however be running a 7k at the All-Ohio meet this coming Friday. This past Saturday was the last time this season that we will run anything other then a 5k. And I believe we are all ready to get into the habit of a normal race distance.

Saturday morning ended up being a perfect time to run. It was chilly, but not too cold and the rain stayed away for the races. The course was muddy because the ground was wet and there had been races before we ran. But even with the mud, the course wasn't too slick for us to run.

Our team did very well at the meet. We finished 7th out of 14 teams, which was our best finish so far this year and our best finish as a team at the Otterbein meet. This was also the first race that all of the girls on the team were able to run. Before this race, Sarah Mast had been hurt and even though she was not scored in the Otterbein race, she was able to run. It was also the first race that Ashley Mast was allowed to be scored as part of our team. So, that really helped our team in having a great finish.

Lincoln Green finished first for our team with a time of 24:49. She finished 24th out of the 152 runners in the race. Next came in Lindsey Minor and Ashley Mast. Lindsey finished with a 26:11 and Ashley with a 26:13. Right after came Becca Haught and myself. Becca finished with a time of 26:22 and I had a 26:27. Close after came Alex Reasoner and Brittany Richter. Alex finished in 27:11 and Brittany finished in 27:28. Next was Sarah Mast who was not scored for the race. After Sarah came Melissa Keiser with a 29:48. Then, Kathleen Finley with a 30:18 and Katie Worthington with a 33:03.

It has been a good start to the season. We have had three good races so far and we are looking forward to this Friday and the All-Ohio Meet. We hope that we will see you there!
