Cougar Cross Country Blog

Throughout the course of the 2010 season, MVNU junior runner Nate Winters will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"The First Days" (posted on August 26, 2010)

I didn’t really wake up today until I was out the door and on my way to practice.  The cool morning air hit my skin, and I realized that I was literally only half dressed.  "Am I really this tired?” I asked myself.  Yes, the past few days have been busy (but fun-filled) and it was the exhaustion that caused me to walk out of my apartment wearing only shorts and one shoe.

So I guess I need to explain a little bit about myself. The reason that I was so tired is because when I’m not running cross country, I am serving as the Vice President of Academic Life on SGA (Student Government Association) here at Mount Vernon Nazarene.  This kind of makes me pressed for time, and I haven’t gotten to spend as much time with the team as I want to.  We’ve only been together for six days, but it has been a lot of fun.  I expect the next four months to be just as much fun.

We have five new runners this year, and three are freshman.  Grant and Kevin are starting their senior and junior years, respectively, while Jace, Sebastian, and Mitch are our new freshman.  It is good to see new faces that are eager to run, and I’m looking forward to getting to know all of them much better

Right now, the team is camping at Mohican.  The season doesn’t really seem to start until the team has gone to camp and bonded.   And there is no better way to bond than to throw 12 guys in a cabin together and make them cook for themselves!  In the past, team camp has been one of the most fun (and difficult) parts of the cross country season.

After team camp, we jump right into the running season.  This Saturday, we are running in the Foundation for Knox Community Hospital 4-miler, and our first race is September 1st at Kenyon.  The season will be here before we know it, and our hard work will be put to the test.  Hopefully I remember to get completely dressed next time.
