"Second Half" (posted on October 16, 2009)

Now that the first half of the season is over, the team prepares for the end. This is the most important time of the year. Most of us have been really busy with midterms and other work, but running helps take some of that stress away. It helps keep us from going crazy!

There was no meet this past weekend. Practice was not particularly bad. At this time of the year, it gets tough to remember what we even did! Most of us girls are excited for this upcoming weekend. We have an awesome meet at Wilmington and then it is fall break! We all are still going to run over break, but we are excited to get away from the chaos of college.

We also did the phonathon earlier this week. While someone could easily make it a rough event, it was actually fun. In between calling people and asking for their support, we managed to have an amazing time! For some reason, we started singing Hero by Enrique Iglesias. For about an hour, that was all that was in our heads! Because we were by computers, we were actually able to watch and listen to the video.

The guys' team was in there too, so there was lots of talk between both teams. What was funny was that the guys were all on one side of the room, while the girls were all on the other. Not that we do not like them, we are just a really bonded group!

There has still been some injuries, but slowly it keeps getting better. Hannah Fertig was in a fight with a pizza cart this week. She may have been a little injured from it, but I believe that she won!

The toughest part about this time of the year is the weather. What makes us angry (me in particular) is that it was not this cold last year. We already have to wear layers, and it might snow during a race! Last year, there was only one race where it snowed some, and that was at the very last race in November.

We may complain a lot about it, but most people agree that we would rather have it be cold than really hot. No matter what the weather is like, I know that our team is going to still do the best that we can! I love the team!
