"Shawnee State Invitational" (posted on September 11, 2009)

Poor Coach: September 4th was our first journey to a meet at Shawnee State University. The girls' and guys' teams both took separate vans. Coach was lucky enough to drive the van that the girls were on. Our trip started with most girls attempting to sleep, then giving up and just talking. Coach now officially understands what conversations take place during "girl talk”. The fact that most of the girls are very loud also makes the trip exciting for all. The best part about the time spent in the vans going to meets is the girls getting to know each other a lot more.

The guys were supposed to run first at this meet, but it was switched to the girls the day of the race. For our first meet, every one pushed themselves as hard as we could. As a team, we received third place. For Tara Patrick (left) and Bethany Parks, this was their first race ever! Tara was so determined to finish, that she continued to do so after she got sick twice and passed out.

There were so many moments when I just wanted to stop running. At one point, I was so close to giving up that I convinced myself it was okay. When I got to that point, I heard the guys' team cheering for me. They gave not only me but all the other girls so much motivation and support! While they may be a strange group of guys, they really helped us do our best.

One awesome part of running is getting to know people from other schools. For the majority of the race, a girl from Cedarville University was running next to me. When we were finished, we said good job to each other. Once we were able to breathe again, we got to know each other and found out that we will be at many of the same meets. Most people at the events are so nice and it is great to get connected to other teams.

On the way back, we stopped at a "fast” food place to eat. We went to Fazoli's and ended up being there for about two hours. While we may have been a little upset about the length of the stop, it was nice to just bond with the guys and the girls teams (even though majority of the time was spent making fun of each other). We always seem to have a good time when there food is there!

While we do not have a meet this weekend, we have been working really hard for our meet at Cedarville on September 19th. God bless!
