Lady Cougar Cross Country Blog

Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU sophomore runner Nikki Yates will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"Final Preparations" (posted on September 3, 2009)

Honeymoon Suite: Loving, exhausting, fun, and interesting are only a few words that can describe what cross country camp was like for the 2009 Lady Cougars.  For two days and three nights, we were able to not only have an amazing time, but grow into a united team.  We stayed in Apple Valley at a house that could easily be used to film a horror movie, but most people went there for their honeymoon.  There was definitely love in the air.  The first night we were all there, over half of the team was in the hot tub.  We looked out and noticed that there was an axe just sitting there.  That scared us for a bit and also made us laugh, but did not stop us from getting to know each other.

For us girls, the best part of the trip had to be getting ice cream!  We eat just as much, if not more than the guys.  Caitlin Campbell could easily out-eat anyone from the entire team (she did receive second place in a wing eating contest last year).  One big perk from running is that we can eat almost anything we want without gaining weight!

While camp was fun, everyone also worked very hard.  We ran around fifty miles the first week back.  There were many times when we were upset at Coach Wilson for what we had to do for practice, but it helped us prepare for our first meet at Shawnee State coming up on September 4th.  Getting close with the teammates helps us push each other during meets.  We all want to do the best that we can to help out the team as a whole.

We all have so much motivation to run and do the best that we can.  Coach Wilson is such an amazing coach, and we want to be the best so that he is proud (and I have never seen him frown because he is always proud of what we accomplish).  Also, the friendly competition that we have with fellow teammates helps us a lot.  While we love each other on the team, we also strive to be the best.  Lastly, we could not do this if it was not for God.  He has blessed every single member of this team so much.  The fact that we are all together is a blessing, and we run to glorify His name.
