Throughout the course of the 2009 season, MVNU sophomore runner Jameson Seymour will write a weekly blog about what is happening with the team.

"The Last Race" (posted on November 20, 2009)

We are finally done with our season! This season has been a great year for each guy on the team. I am glad that we have been able to grow together and push each other to work harder. For the last race of the season, the weather could not have been any better. It was 55 and sunny with no wind at all! Everyone was excited for this race to begin. We have worked so hard this year and Coach Wilson couldn't have asked for more.

Mark Porostosky and Dustin Wine have been waiting for this race for a long time. I asked them before the race what they would be thinking when they hit the 7000-meter mark? Dustin said that he would be thinking of how much soda he would be able to drink after he was done. Mark, on the other hand, did not have much to say except for "I hope I am not tired and in a good position." Dustin and Mark have been at Cedarville for a total of 9 times in the last four years! They knew the course like the back of their hand, and so did the rest of the team. We were all huddled up out in the middle of the course before the race, and all Coach could say was "All of you have done great and I could ask for nothing else. Run your hardest and prove to everyone who MVNU is!" Now, I don't know about everyone else, but I got shivers when he said that!

The race began and the runners took off. The first 300 meters of the race flew by and the next thing I knew they were passing the one-mile mark and then the two-mile mark. I unfortunately could not run because of an injury, but I was out there cheering my team on. When they came by the two-mile mark, it was insane! I have never seen so much enthusiasm from the fans and with the runners. Our team looked great out there! When our guys came back around for the four-mile mark, I saw the emotion in Mark's and Dustin's faces. They both knew that in one mile their college running career would be over. I cheered them on and they sped up to finish their last race the best they could. As all the runners came in, the intensity increased. Dave, Joe and Dustin were running side by side coming into the last 200 meters. All of the team finished great and I am glad to say that I was a part of the MVNU cross country team!

It was a great honor to run this year with Dustin and Mark. They were great runners and captains! More importantly, though, they were good friends. Both of them were there for all of the runners when we needed them. They knew when to push us, and they knew when to let us take it easy. Without the two of them, we wouldn't have had the team we had this season. They will truly be missed by all of us.
