May 13, at Seton Hill (PA) University
MVNU, the fourth seed, had its postseason run come to a dramatic end as the Cougars fell 2-1 to top-seeded host Seton Hill (PA), ranked 18th in the latest NAIA national poll, in the second championship game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament.  Jake Poole (1-3) suffered the tough loss as he gave up two hits and one run over the final three innings including the game-winning home run in the top of the ninth inning.  Nick Schwartz started and worked the first six innings as he scattered three hits, six walks, and one run while striking out 10 batters.  Offensively, Richey Burgos and Josh Estep each had two hits for MVNU which closes its season with a 27-22 overall record.  BOXSCORE

May 12, at Seton Hill (PA) University
The fourth-seeded Cougars upset top-seeded Seton Hill, which is ranked 18th in the latest NAIA national poll, 6-4 in the first championship game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament.  Marc Hadley (2-0) started and worked 6 1/3 innings to pick up his second win of the day as he scattered eight hits, one walk, four hit batsmen, and three runs with two strikeouts.  Jason Decker tossed two innings of relief and gave up one hit, one walk, one hit batsman, and one run with one strikeout, and Jake Poole notched his sixth save of the year by inducing a game-ending double play.  Offensively, Brandon Turner went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Zack Helm, Josh Estep, and Bobby Deppe added two hits apiece.  BOXSCORE

Nick Schwartz tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, to an 11-0 non-conference win over Shawnee State in the second game of a twinbill at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  Schwartz (1-1) allowed just two ground ball singles over five innings with no walks and eight strikeouts.  Meanwhile, the offense pounded out 14 hits in 24 at bats led by Casey Garland, who was 3-for-3 with two RBI.  Kyle Peters, Zack Helm, Eddie Smith, and Ari Yoder also added two hits apiece with Helm and Richey Burgos each driving in two runs.  BOXSCORE

March 20, vs. Shawnee State University
MVNU, which received votes in the latest NAIA poll, fell 9-8 in eight innings to Shawnee State in non-conference action in the first game of a doubleheader at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  After rallying from an 8-5 deficit to force extra innings, the Cougars allowed the winning run to cross the plate with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Jason Decker (0-1) suffered the loss in relief as he allowed seven hits, one walk, and two runs over 3 1/3 inning with three strikeouts.  Mike Laughlin started and worked four-plus innings as he gave up four hits, six walks, and seven runs with six strikeouts.  Offensively, the Cougars were led by Kyle Peters, Bobby Deppe, and Brandon Turner with two hits apiece.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, snapped their four-game losing streak with a hard-fought 1-0 decision over St. Lawrence in 11 innings of the second game of a non-conference twinbill at the Gene Cusic Classic in Cape Coral, Florida.  Kyle Peters started and pitched nine shutout innings as he allowed just five hits while striking out eight batters.  Dave Yost (1-1) earned the victory as he allowed just two hits with three strikeouts over the final two innings.  Richey Burgos drove in Peters with two outs in the bottom of the eleventh inning for the win.  Peters and Burgos each had two hits in the game, while Ari Yoder and Marc Hadley each added a hit apiece.  BOXSCORE

MVNU, which received votes in the latest NAIA poll, dropped a heart-breaking 12-11 decision to St. Lawrence in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at the Gene Cusic Classic in Cape Coral, Florida.  The Cougars rallied from a 9-6 deficit with five runs in the top of the seventh inning only to have the Saints score three times in the bottom of the seventh inning for the win.  Ari Yoder paced the offensive attack by going 3-for-4, while Josh Estep went 2-for-2 with three RBI.  Kyle Peters and Casey Garland also added two hits apiece.  Marc Hadley started and worked five innings as he scattered 12 hits and nine runs (only five earned) while striking out three batters.  Jake Poole (0-1) took the loss as he gave up four hits, three walks, and three runs in 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.  Jason Barber also faced two batters and allowed a hit and a walk.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, fell 15-4 to Minnesota State-Mankato in a non-conference game at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  With the score tied 4-4, the Mavericks scored 11 unanswered runs including nine in the top of the ninth inning for the victory.  Ryan Decker started and worked seven innings in which he allowed nine hits, five walks, and four runs with seven strikeouts.  Dave Yost (0-1) suffered the loss as he gave up two unearned runs on one hit and one walk in one inning.  Kyle Peters and Ray McFerren each had two hits to pace the offense, while Eddie Smith blasted a three-run homer.  BOXSCORE

MVNU, which received votes in the NAIA preseason poll, cruised to a 16-3 non-conference victory over Capital in the Cougars' 2006 season opener.  Mike Laughlin (1-0) picked up the win as he allowed four hits and three runs over four innings with eight strikeouts and two walks.  Nick Schwartz tossed three hitless innings to close out the game and notch a save as he struck out three batters with two walks.  Marc Hadley and Ari Yoder each had three hits to pace the 15-hit attack, while Richey Burgos added a home run and a double with three RBI and three runs scored.  Zack Helm and Kyle Peters also finished with two hits apiece, and Eddie Smith drove in three runs.  BOXSCORE
