May 18, vs. Faulkner (AL) University
The top-seeded Cougars, who received votes in the final NAIA poll, saw their season come to an end with a 5-3 loss to second-seeded Faulkner in the loser's bracket of the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Struthers, Ohio.  Faulkner scored four times in the top of the seventh inning for the win.  Ryan Decker (7-3) took the loss as he allowed five hits, five walks, and five runs over 6.1 innings with three strikeouts, and Marc Hadley retired the final two batters in relief.  Offensively, Zack Helm went 2-for-3 with two runs scored an an RBI as MVNU collected just five hits in the game.  BOXSCORE

May 17, vs. Trinity Christian (IL) College
Top-seeded MVNU, which received votes in the final NAIA poll, stayed alive in the loser's bracket of the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Struthers, Ohio, with an 11-3 win over seventh-seeded Trinity Christian.  Mike Laughlin (6-2) earned the win on the mound as he allowed just three hits, six walks, and three unearned runs over 5.1 innings with 11 strikeouts.  Jason Barber worked the final 1.2 innings and gave up just one walk with three strikeouts.  Meanwhile, Zack Helm and Richey Burgos led the 13-hit offensive attack with three hits apiece with Burgos driving in three runs with a three-run homer.  Ross Yoder and Eddie Smith each had two hits with Yoder homering and driving in three, and Matt Parks hit a solo home run.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars, who are the top seed and received votes in the final NAIA poll, fell 6-3 to eighth-seeded Trinity International in winner's bracket of the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Struthers, Ohio, in a game that took two days to complete due to rain.  Levi Curry (7-4) took the hard-luck loss as he scattered eight hits, three walks, and five runs (only one earned) over six innings with six strikeouts.  Jason Barber tossed the final inning and gave up two hits, one walk, and one run.  Offensively, Ross Yoder went 3-for-4 with a single, double, and triple and two runs scored, while Ari Yoder added two hits.  BOXSCORE

After winning three straight loser's bracket games to advance to the championship game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Cougar Field, top-seeded MVNU fell 10-8 to sixth-seeded Walsh as the Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, was knocked out of the tournament.  Dave Yost (5-2) started and took the loss for MVNU as he gave up eight hits and five runs over three-plus innings with three strikeouts.  Jason Decker tossed 3.1 innings of relief and scattered five hits and one run, while Jason Barber allowed one hit and four runs (only one earned) over 2/3 of an inning.  Marc Hadley tossed the final 2/3 of an inning and gave up two hits.  Offensively, Richey Burgos, Josh Estep, and Kodi Veale each had two hits apiece with Burgos hitting a home run.  BOXSCORE

The top-seeded Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, won the loser's bracket championship game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament with an 8-4 victory over third-seeded Ohio Dominican at Cougar Field to eliminate the 15th-ranked Panthers.  Ross Yoder, Ari Yoder, Zack Helm, and Eddie Smith each had two hits to fuel the 13-hit attack for MVNU with Helm and Josh Estep each homering and driving in two runs apiece.  On the mound, Brandon Turner (8-1) earned the win as he scattered seven hits, three walks, and four runs over 6.1 innings with four strikeouts.  Jason Barber worked the final 2.2 innings and notched his fourth save as he allowed just one hit and struck out three batters.  BOXSCORE

The top-seeded Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, stayed alive in the NAIA Region IX Tournament with a 7-6 come-from-behind win over fifth-seeded Rio Grande in 10 innings at Kenyon College's McCloskey Field in the loser's bracket.  Josh Estep was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the tenth inning to complete the comeback for MVNU, which had trailed 6-3 heading into the eighth inning.  Marc Hadley (2-1) picked up the win as he gave up just four hits over five scoreless innings of relief as he struck out five batters.  Mike Laughlin started and worked five-plus innings as he allowed eight hits, three walks, and six runs while striking out five batters.  Offensively, Zack Helm, Ross Yoder, Brandon Turner, and Eddie Smith each had two hits.  BOXSCORE

May 3, OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY-NEWARK
The Cougars, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, closed out the regular season with a 6-0 shutout at home against Ohio State-Newark in non-conference action.  Ryan Decker started and worked three scoreless innings as he scattered three hits and struck out four batters.  Dave Yost (5-1) tossed a scoreless inning and allowed one hit with one strikeout as he picked up the victory.  Jason Decker surrendered three hits in two innings of work with two strikeouts, while Jason Barber gave up one hit and had one strikeout in two innings of work.  Marc Hadley then retired the side in order in the ninth inning to close out the game as he also had one strikeout.  Offensively, Ray McFerren led the way as he went 3-for-4.  Richey Burgos and Eddie Smith also went 2-for-3 each with Burgos having a triple and two RBI.  BOXSCORE

May 1, at Capital University
MVNU, which received votes in the latest NAIA poll, set several school records as the Cougars' offense exploded for a 27-5 non-conference win at Capital in what was scheduled to be a 9-inning game.  MVNU set new records for runs (27) and RBI (27) in a game and tied the marks for home runs in a game (7) and home runs in an inning (4).  Josh Estep led the Cougars by going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two homers, a school-record five runs scored, and six RBI, while Ray McFerren had two singles, a homer, and five RBI.  Ari Yoder finished with three singles, a home run, three runs scored, and four RBI, and Eddie Smith had a single, a double, a home run, four runs scored, and four RBI.  Ross Yoder, Zack Helm, Richey Burgos, and Garret Shivley each finished with two hits apiece with Shivley and Ross Yoder each homering.  Estep, Smith, Ari Yoder, and Ross Yoder each homered during the top of the fifth inning to tie the record.  On the mound, Levi Curry (7-2) picked up the win as he scattered six hits, three walks, and one run over three innings with two strikeouts.  Mike Laughlin gave up two hits, five walks, and four runs over 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout.  Marc Hadley retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced over 3.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and Michael King retired the side in order in the eighth inning including striking out the final two batters.  BOXSCORE

Ryan Decker tossed the 15th no-hitter in MVNU history and the second for the Cougars this year to lead the team to an 11-0 victory in the first game of an American Mideast Conference South Division twinbill.  Decker (4-2) allowed just two walks over five innings with three strikeouts in posting his second career shutout.  Meanwhile, the MVNU offense broke open a scoreless game with nine runs in the top of the third inning and never looked back.  Josh Estep and Eddie Smith led the 10-hit attack with two hits apiece, and six different players drove in at least one run with nine different players scoring at least once.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for an 11-6 victory over Southeastern in the second game of a doubleheader in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Richey Burgos and Josh Estep each had three hits apiece to lead MVNU's 17-hit attack.  Matt Parks, Eddie Smith, Garret Shivley, and Kodi Veale added two hits each.  On the mound, Brandon Turner started and worked four-plus innings and scattered four hits, seven walks, and six runs with two strikeouts.  Jason Barber (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he worked the final three innings and allowed just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.  BOXSCORE

MVNU dropped an 11-7 decision to Southeastern in the first game of a doubleheader in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Garret Shivley (0-1) took the loss as he gave up four hits, three walks, and six runs in one inning of relief.  Michael King started and worked three innings as he scattered five hits and three runs, while Matt Parks tossed the final two innings and allowed two hits, three walks, and two runs with one strikeout.  Ross Yoder and Kodi Veale each homered and singled with Yoder driving in three runs.  Parks added a pair of doubles and scored twice.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars notched their fifth straight win as MVNU held on for a 10-8 victory over Grand View in the second game of a doubleheader in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Jason Decker (1-1) picked up the win in his first career start as he scattered eight hits, two walks, and five runs over five-plus innings with three strikeouts.  Jason Barber gave up three hits and one run over 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout, and Marc Hadley worked the final 1.1 innings and allowed two hits, one walk, and two runs to notch his second save of the season.  Meanwhile, Eddie Smith and Kodi Veale paced the 14-hit attack with three hits apiece as Smith drove in three runs and Veale scored three times.  Ross Yoder added two hits and four RBI, and Josh Estep also had two hits including his first home run of the season.  BOXSCORE

MVNU cruised to a 10-1 victory over Grand View in the first game of a doubleheader in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Ryan Decker (3-0) allowed just seven hits, one walk, and one run over seven innings with six strikeouts as he tossed his second straight complete game.  Offensively, Ross Yoder had a double, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBI.  Zack Helm and Brandon Turner each added two hits with Helm driving in three runs and Turner scoring three times.  Garret Shivley also registered a career-high three stolen bases to finish just one shy of the school's single-game record.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars pounded out a season-high 18 hits and Levi Curry tossed a three-hit shutout as MVNU blanked Grand View 13-0 in action in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Curry (2-0) struck out a career-high 10 batters and issued just one walk over eight innings to pick up the complete-game win.  Meanwhile, Zack Helm went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI to pace the offense.  Richey Burgos went 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two RBI, and two runs scored, and Ross Yoder also had a single, a double, and a triple while scoring three runs.  Matt Parks had a triple and a single in the eighth inning, while Josh Estep and Eddie Smith also had two hits in the game.  BOXSCORE

MVNU gave up five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning including the winning run as a bases-loaded walk as the Cougars dropped a tough 8-7 decision to Missouri Baptist in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Ross Yoder paced the offense by going 4-for-5, while Richey Burgos added three hits.  Ari Yoder and Josh Estep also finished with two hits apiece as MVNU registered 14 hits in the game.  On the mound, Mike Laughlin started and worked seven innings and allowed just three hits, two walks, and three unearned runs with a season-high nine strikeouts as he retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced.  Marc Hadley gave up one hit, two walks, and one run in one inning of work with one strikeout.  Jason Decker (0-1) took the loss as he surrendered five hits, one walk, and four runs in 1/3 of an inning.  BOXSCORE

MVNU came up just short in a slugfest as five Cougars' errors accounted for six unearned runs as MVNU fell 11-10 to Mayville State in action on the team's spring trip to Ormond Beach, Florida.  Kodi Veale led the offense by going 3-for-4, while Ross Yoder and Eddie Smith each had two hits.  Veale, Ross Yoder, Richey Burgos, and Ari Yoder each hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Cougars set a school record for homers in an inning.  On the mound, Levi Curry started and worked 5.1 innings as he scattered eight hits, three walks, and nine runs (five earned) with six strikeouts.  Marc Hadley (0-1) suffered the hard-luck loss as he scattered five hits and two unearned runs over 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.  Jason Decker tossed the final inning and struck out one batter.  BOXSCORE

Brandon Turner recorded the 14th no-hitter in school history as the Cougars blanked Shawnee State 3-0 in the nightcap of an American Mideast Conference South Division twinbill.  Turner (1-0) retired the first 17 batters in a row before issuing a two-out walk in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Then, in the seventh inning, he walked the lead-off batter but got a double play and a fly out to end the game as he finished with four strikeouts.  Offensively, MVNU collected seven hits with Garret Shivley's double being the only one for extra bases.  BOXSCORE

MVNU pounded out 14 hits on the way to posting a 15-5 victory over Shawnee State in the first game of an American Mideast Conference South Division doubleheader.  Josh Estep and Brandon Turner each went 3-for-4 with three RBI apiece with Estep also scoring three runs.  Ross Yoder and Kodi Veale added two hits apiece with Veale scoring three times, and Zack Helm drove in three runs.  Richey Burgos also hit a two-run homer for the team's first home run of the season.  On the mound, Ryan Decker (1-0) picked up the win as he scattered eight hits, one walk, and five runs over 5.1 innings with two strikeouts.  Marc Hadley recorded the final two outs of the game with one strikeout.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars suffered their first loss of the season as two errors resulted in two unearned runs as MVNU fell 2-1 in the second game of an American Mideast Conference South Division twinbill at Shawnee State.  Mike Laughlin (0-1) took the tough loss on the mound despite allowing just two hits, five walks, and no earned runs over six innings with three strikeouts.  Meanwhile, Ari Yoder recorded two of the Cougars' seven hits with a single and a triple.  BOXSCORE

MVNU successfully opened the 2007 season with a 9-2 victory at Shawnee State in the first game of an American Mideast Conference South Division doubleheader.  Levi Curry (1-0) picked up the victory on the mound in his debut with the Cougars as he scattered nine hits, two walks, and two runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.  Offensively, Ross Yoder, Zack Helm, Brandon Turner, and Kodi Veale each had two hits with Turner driving in three runs.  BOXSCORE
