May 20, vs. Indiana Wesleyan University
MVNU, the top seed, was eliminated from the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament as the Cougars fell 6-5 to fifth-seeded Indiana Wesleyan in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Richey Burgos, who was 3-for-4 in the game, hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to give MVNU a 4-1 lead.  However, Indiana Wesleyan scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out the win.  Jake Poole (3-2) suffered the loss in relief as he gave up five hits, one walk, and four runs over 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout.  Dave Yost started and scattered six hits, five walks, and two runs over 5 1/3 innings with one strikeout.  Ty Dendinger and Joel Torres were both named to the NCCAA All-National Tournament Team for their efforts as the Cougars finished fourth out of 10 teams.  BOXSCORE

May 19, vs. Bethel (IN) College
The top-seeded Cougars continued to work their way through the loser's bracket at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as MVNU eliminated fourth-seeded Bethel 10-1.  Derek Morey (4-1) scattered eight hits, two walks, and one run over seven innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win.  Offensively, the Cougars pounded out 17 hits as Zack Helm went 3-for-3 and Joel Torres added three hits and three RBI.  Kyle Peters, Richey Burgos, Ty Dendinger, and Tim Martini also finished with two hits apiece.  BOXSCORE

May 19, at Tennessee Temple University
MVNU, the top seed, stayed alive in the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a 22-2 win over host Tennessee Temple, the tenth seed.  The Cougars pounded out 23 hits with Joel Torres going 4-for-4 as he hit for the cycle and drove in seven runs.  Ty Dendinger also went 4-for-4 and scored five runs, while Ari Yoder tallied four hits.   Steve Edwards, Brandon Turner, and Zack Helm each added two hits apiece, and Marc Hadley hit a three-run homer.  On the mound, Mike Laughlin (7-2) allowed nine hits, one walk, and two runs over seven innings with six strikeouts.  BOXSCORE

MVNU, the third seed, saw its run at the NAIA Region IX Tournament come to an end as the Cougars fell 22-9 at top-seeded Ohio Dominican, ranked 15th in the latest NAIA national poll, in the championship game.  The host Panthers scored in each of the first seven innings and built a 19-0 lead in the game.   Steve Edwards led the MVNU offense by going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, while Nate Rutkowski and Ari Yoder each had two hits apiece.   On the mound, Ryan Decker (3-3) started and took the loss for the Cougars as he allowed six hits and six runs over the first two innings.  Jason Barber, Brandon Turner, and Dave Yost each worked in relief with Yost tossing two scoreless innings to end the game.  BOXSCORE

The third-seeded Cougars upset top-seeded and host Ohio Dominican, who is ranked 15th in the latest NAIA national poll, 7-5 in the NAIA Region IX Tournament to advance to the championship game for the sixth straight year.  Derek Morey (3-1) picked up his second win of the tournament as he allowed just five hits, three walks, and five runs as he worked all nine innings and struck out one batter.  Offensively, Steve Edwards led MVNU by going 3-for-3, while Tim Martini added a pair of hits.  BOXSCORE

May 12, vs. Walsh University
MVNU, the third seed, stayed alive in the loser's bracket of the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Ohio Dominican University as the Cougars eliminated second-seeded Walsh 8-7 in 10 innings.  Steve Edwards, who was 5-for-6 in the game, beat out an infield single with Zack Helm scoring from second on the play for the walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th inning.  Richey Burgos added three hits and three RBI, while Ty Dendinger, Tim Martini, and Nate Rutkowski each had two hits apiece.  Nick Schwartz started and worked nine-plus innings as he scattered 12 hits, two walks, and seven runs with five strikeouts.  Derek Morey (2-1) came on in the 10th inning to retire the final three batters to pick up the win.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars, who were the second seed from the American Mideast Conference South Division, won their AMC Tournament Best-of-Three Series with a 14-1 victory over Seton Hill, the third seed from the AMC North Division, to earn a berth in the NAIA Region IX Tournament.  Mike Laughlin (5-2) tossed a three-hitter and allowed just two walks and one run over seven innings with six strikeouts to pick up the win.  Offensively, Steve Edwards, Kyle Peters, and Nate Rutkowski each had three hits, while Richey Burgos and Tim Martini added two hits apiece.  Edwards also hit his second home run of the year.  BOXSCORE

May 5, SETON HILL (PA) UNIVERSITY
MVNU, the second seed from the American Mideast Conference South Division, opened its postseason with a 12-6 victory over Seton Hill, the third seed from the AMC North Division, in the first game of the Cougars' AMC Tournament Best-of-Three Series.  MVNU pounded out 18 hits on the day as the top four hitters in the lineup went a combined 11-for-19.  Kyle Peters, Richey Burgos, and Ty Dendinger each had three hits, while Steve Edwards, Joel Torres, and Ray McFerren finished with two hits apiece.  Torres and Burgos each homered in the game.  On the mound, Nick Schwartz (5-2) earned the win as he scattered seven hits, five walks, and four runs over 7 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts.  Jake Poole tossed the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits, one walk, and two runs.  BOXSCORE

April 30, UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE

The Cougars rallied to force extra innings before eventually falling 3-2 in nine innings to Augsburg at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  Nick Schwartz started for MVNU on the mound and scattered seven hits and two runs over seven innings with a season-high 10 strikeouts.  Jake Poole (0-1) took the loss in relief despite allowing just one unearned run over two innings with two strikeouts.  Offensively, Kyle Peters went 3-for-5 to lead the Cougars.  BOXSCORE

March 19, vs. Hillsdale (MI) College
MVNU rallied for a 7-6 victory over Hillsdale in its final at bat at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  Richey Burgos drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning with a one-out, bases-loaded walk.  Burgos and Steve Edwards each drove in two runs, while Tim Martini had two hits and two runs scored.  On the mound, Mike Laughlin started and worked five no-hit innings with a career-high 13 strikeouts as he allowed just five walks and one unearned run.  Dave Yost allowed five hits, one walk, and four runs over two innings with three strikeouts, while Jake Poole gave up one hit, one walk, and one run over one inning with two strikeouts.  Carl Langley (1-0) earned the win by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.  The four pitchers combined to equal the school record of 18 strikeouts set in 1983 versus Kenyon College.  BOXSCORE

The Cougars scored a school-record 17 runs in the sixth inning as MVNU downed Minnesota-Morris 26-1 at the Gene Cusic Classic in Cape Coral, Florida.  The 26 runs tied the school record previously set versus Kenyon College in 1985.  Brandon Turner led the 20-hit attack by going 3-for-3 - all in the sixth inning.  Seven players added two hits apiece with Jeff Derr driving in five runs and Zack Helm adding four RBI.  Meanwhile, Ryan Decker (1-0) earned the win on the mound as he allowed just five hits, three walks, and one run over six innings with two strikeouts.  Jason Barber tossed the final inning and struck out all three batters he faced.  BOXSCORE

MVNU, which is ranked ninth in the NAIA preseason poll, suffered a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Bethel at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.  The Cougars' pitching staff combined for 16 strikeouts - two shy of the school record - in the defeat.  Nick Schwartz allowed two hits, two walks, and no runs with seven strikeouts as he started and worked four innings.  Jon Barchus (0-1) suffered the loss as he allowed two hits, four walks, and two runs over 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.  Jake Poole struck out four batters in 1 2/3 innings as he allowed two hits and one unearned run, and Carl Langley worked a scoreless inning with one walk and two strikeouts.  Offensively, Richey Burgos went 2-for-2 with two walks, while Ty Dendinger added two hits and drove in the team's only run.  BOXSCORE
