Throughout the course of the 2012 season, MVNU
junior pitcher Justin Brown will write a weekly blog about what is
happening with the baseball team. "The
Weather Channel" (posted on
April 17, 2012)
This last week in Cougar
baseball provided some of the most
interesting weather patterns. It seemed like
we played games in a number of different
climate zones. On Tuesday, we played at home
and split with Bethel College. The weather
was absolutely freezing - it actually
featured snow flurries. You read that
correctly... snow flurries in April! It was
a tough day for baseball, but we pressed on
through.
On Thursday, we made the
long trek to Goshen and ended up splitting
the doubleheader there as well. The second
game of the doubleheader was such a
rollercoaster. We were down four runs early,
but pulled to within 4-2 heading in to the
seventh inning. Then, we scored four runs in
the seventh inning to take a 6-4 lead.
However, Goshen battled back to win the game
7-6 in the bottom half of the inning. It was
a tough loss to swallow, but that's baseball
for you.
Saturday provided a rainy
day, perfect conditions for baseball in the
spring time. It was a tough day to play the
game, but thankfully because of the new turf
we were able to get the games in. If it were
not for the turf, there is no way we would
have played, so if you donated to the
project we greatly appreciate your help!
This week we have some great opponents
coming at us. We travel to Indiana Wesleyan
on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 4
p.m. We return home on Thursday at 2 p.m. to
square off against Indiana Wesleyan again.
Then, on Saturday, we will play at home
against Saint Francis starting at 1 p.m.
Now I would like to introduce three more
Cougar Baseball players: Cory Kubbs, Robert
Kane, and Greg Travis.
Cory Kubbs
Cory is a pitcher/infielder who
transferred in this season from Muskingum
University. He has had a rough season as he
has been battling a knee injury. When Cory
came here in the fall, he was an infielder
only. When January rolled around, it was
awesome to see him working out with the
pitchers. You can tell he loves the game of
baseball. He is a great person to talk MLB
with because he is very knowledgeable. I
know this season has been frustrating for
Cory, but he still brings an awesome,
positive attitude with him to the park every
day which is just contagious.
Robert
Kane
Robert is
another transfer student. He is an awesome
outfielder and one of the few lefties on the
team. The thing that is so cool about Robert
is to see where his faith and the game of
baseball mesh. It is obvious that Robert
seeks to glorify God in every aspect of his
life. He challenges us all to express our
faith in more ways each day. He is a great
person of deep character that you can tell
by just having a brief conversation with
him.
Greg Travis
Gregory Travis has become a pretty good
friend of mine over the years. Greg is a Red
Sox fan whereas I am a Yankees fan, so we
have had our fair share of trash-talking
conversations over the years. The thing that
is awesome about Greg is you can just tell
he loves being around his teammates. Whether
it's in the café or in classes, practice or
trips to Wal-Mart, Greg loves to be around
his friends. You can tell that he is a guy
who values friendships and that is someone
you definitely want to have a friendship
with!
We look forward to seeing you
out at Cougar field this week! Hopefully the
weather is better than what we faced last
week!
With you on the Journey,
JB
