Trevor Knowles, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's soccer team, was recently selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Week for his performance during the week of September 6-12.
Knowles, a freshman from Gahanna, Ohio, helped the Cougars to a 2-0 week as the team won the 1999 Pizza Hut Cougar Invitational with two shutout victories. The former Westerville North High School standout played the first half of a 9-0 rout of Huntington (IN) College in the first round match of the tournament. Knowles then recorded his first collegiate shutout as MVNC blanked Trinity Christian (IL) College 4-0 in the championship match.
On the season, Knowles has started all seven matches for the Cougars, who are off to the best start in school history at 6-1. He has posted 20 saves and allowed just six goals for a 1.06 goals allowed against average. Besides the shutout against Trinity Christian, Knowles has also combined on two other shutouts as MVNC has not allowed a goal in its last three matches.
The Cougars will return to action on Saturday afternoon when the team will host Shawnee State University in the team's American Mideast Conference opener at noon at Cougar Field.
