Mike Wells, a former member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's basketball team as a player and an assistant coach, was promoted to the position of bench assistant coach/video coordinator by the Houston Rockets on Monday, October 4.
Wells, who is entering his sixth season with the Rockets and his fourth as the team's video coordinator, will be responsible for bench assistance, individual player workouts, and advance scouting of upcoming opponents. He will also continue to be responsible for computerized video editing, game preparation, and aiding in the review of free agent talent. He is one of three assistant coaches on the team.
"Mike has done a remarkable job for us the past three seasons and I know that he is ready to step onto the court and utilize his knowledge," said Rockets head coach Rudy Tomjanovich. "He has an amazing work ethic and a great sense of priorities. This is an outstanding opportunity for both Mike and the Rockets, and I am confident that he will be a tremendous success."
Wells, who is a native of Mount Vernon, was a guard on the MVNC men's basketball team during the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons. The following two years, he served as an assistant coach for the Cougars and earned a master's degree in Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.
