"Schumm Selected as NCCAA Softball All-American"

   Amanda Schumm, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team, was recently selected to the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American First Team.

   Schumm, a sophomore designated player/pitcher from Rockford, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars in nearly every offensive category during the 2000 season. The former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School posted a .414 batting average with 48 hits, eight doubles, two triples, a school-record seven home runs, 24 runs scored, and 31 runs batted in.

   Schumm also compiled a 4-9 record on the mound with a 3.79 earned run average. In 77 2/3 innings of work, she struck out 32 batters and issued 40 walks.

   Schumm was also selected to the NCCAA All-East Region Team and was the runner-up for the NCCAA East Region Player of the Year award. She was an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 1999 as a freshman.

   MVNC finished the 2000 season with a 17-19 overall record and an 11-13 American Mideast Conference mark.
