"Aldrich Named AMC Softball Player of the Week"

   Shelly Aldrich, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference Player of the Week for her performance in games played during the week of April 24-30.

   Aldrich, a junior second baseman from Marion, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-1 week as she batted .714 with eight runs batted in, six runs scored, and a .750 on-base percentage.

   In a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame College, Aldrich went a combined 6-for-7 in the two games as she had three singles in each game. She also scored three runs and drove in four runs.

   In a doubleheader split at Point Park (PA) College, Aldrich went a combined 4-for-7 with two hits in each game. The former Marion Harding High School standout led MVNC to a 3-2 victory in the first game as she blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to propel the Lady Cougars to the win.

   Aldrich finished the season batting .336 with 39 hits in 116 at bats. She led the team with 13 doubles, and she also compiled two triples, two home runs, 15 RBI, and 24 runs scored. She also posted a .965 fielding percentage with only four errors in 113 chances.

   MVNC closed its season with an overall record of 17-19 and a conference mark of 11-13.
