"Schumm Receives Player of the Week Honors"

   Amanda Schumm, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference and National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 20-26.

   Schumm, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Rockford, Ohio, batted .522 with five home runs and 11 runs batted in during the Lady Cougars' 4-4 week. The former Parkway High School star registered 12 hits in 23 at bats with two doubles and nine runs scored. She also posted a 1.261 slugging percentage with 29 total bases in 23 at bats.

   Schumm began the week with a home run and a single with two runs scored and three RBI in a 9-0 victory over Elmhurst (IL) College. She also tossed her first career shutout as she allowed just four hits with four strikeouts in the game.

   After going 1-for-3 against both Eastern Connecticut State University and Calvin (MI) College, Schumm put on a power display against Ramapo (NJ) College as MVNC posted an 11-1 victory. In that game, she went 3-for-4 and tied a school record with two home runs as she drove in four runs and scored three times.

   After going 0-for-2 against the University of Chicago (IL), Schumm pounded another home run in a 4-1 victory over Manchester (IN) College. She closed out the week by going a combined 4-for-5 in a doubleheader against Calvin as she connected for her fifth home run of the season.

   For the season, Schumm leads the Lady Cougars with a .484 batting average, 15 hits, 11 runs scored, 13 RBI, and five home runs. She has also posted a 1-2 record on the mound.

   MVNC is currently 5-5 on the season. The Lady Cougars are scheduled to return to action at Kenyon College on Wednesday in a non-conference twinbill that is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
