The Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's golf team has landed another standout recruit who will join the team for the 2001 season.
Caine Bricker, a senior from Newcomerstown, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to further his education and continue his golf career at MVNC beginning next fall. While at Newcomerstown High School, Bricker was a four-year letterman on the golf team. He was selected to the Inter-Valley Conference First Team and the Eastern District First Team in each of his final three seasons while being his team's medalist.
As a senior, Bricker posted the lowest scoring average (37.2) in the IVC on his way to being selected as the 1999 Eastern District Player of the Year. He also led NHS to the 1999 conference title. He was a two-time medalist at the Eastern District Division II sectional tournaments as a junior and a senior.
"We are very pleased to have Caine coming to MVNC," said golf coach Mike O'Hara. "He has a very solid, experienced golf game, and he is a fine young man. He will bring with him a strong desire to compete, and I feel that he will contribute to our future success right away."
"I chose MVNC because I feel that it will be a great place for me to further my education and compete at a higher level of competition in golf," said Bricker, who has finished second and fourth respectively in the last two Nike Winternational Junior Series of Golf tournaments. "When I came to MVNC to visit, I immediately felt comfortable with the size of the campus and the friendly atmosphere."
"I like the fact that MVNC is a Christian college that upholds the values that my family and I have," Bricker added. "I also had the opportunity to spend some time with members of the golf team and Coach O'Hara when I visited. They were all really great, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to play with them next fall."
Bricker joins Nathanael Petry of Claymont High School as O'Hara's recruits for the 2001 season so far. Petry was an East Central Ohio League First Team selection who finished in the top 12 at the State Tournament in Division II this past season.
The Cougars are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2000 season when March rolls around. The team is ranked #29 in the NAIA preseason poll.
