Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's basketball team were recently honored when the American Mideast Conference awards were announced at the annual coaches' meeting.
Anne Nussbaum, a 5-foot-5 senior guard from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the way by being named to the AMC Second Team. The former Mount Vernon High School standout currently leads the Lady Cougars in scoring (12.5 points per game) and assists (110). Nussbaum has also contributed 72 steals and nailed 46 three-pointers this season while shooting 77.2 percent from the free throw line (95-of-123).
Nussbaum, who is one of three MVNC seniors to top the 1,000-point career mark this season, holds the program's career three-pointers made record with 151. She also tied the single-game three-pointers made mark with seven twice this year. She is third in career assists (310) and career steals (218).
Shelly Aldrich, a 5-foot-7 senior guard from Marion, Ohio, was an Honorable Mention All-AMC selection. The former Marion Harding High School star is averaging 11.6 points per game and leads the Lady Cougars with 58 three-pointers, 75 steals, and an 83.8 free throw shooting percentage.
Aldrich, who also topped the 1,000-point mark this season, currently ranks fifth in career points with 1,092. She also ranks third in career free throws made (247), fourth in career assists (307), fifth in career three-pointers made (115), and sixth in career steals (195).
Deanna Kilpatrick, a 6-foot-1 forward from Warsaw, Ohio, joined Aldrich as an Honorable Mention All-AMC selection. The former River View High School product is averaging 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She has also nailed 34 three-pointers and blocked 11 shots.
For her career, Kilpatrick ranks fifth in career three-pointers made with 115. She also ranks fifth in career blocked shots with 58.
Angie Trainer, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward from Washington Court House, Ohio, was also an Honorable Mention All-AMC choice. The former standout at Miami Trace High School is averaging 11.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She is shooting 75.6 percent from the free throw line (121-of-160), and she has recorded 50 steals.
For her career, Trainer already ranks fourth in career free throws made with 221 in just two seasons. She has also scored 649 career points in 60 games (10.8 points per game average for her career).
The Lady Cougars, who are currently 17-13 overall and the fourth seed in the AMC Tournament, will travel to top-seeded and defending NAIA Division II national champion, Shawnee State University, for a semifinal game at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the AMC Tournament automatically advances to the NAIA Division II national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
