
Tara Hines, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team, has been chosen as the American Mideast Conference Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during the week of April 3-9.
Hines, a junior pitcher from Marion, Ohio, went 2-0 with a 0.82 earned run average in three appearances for the Lady Cougars during the week. The former Marion Harding High School star allowed just three earned runs over 17 innings for the week with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
Hines began the week with her first shutout of the season as she allowed just three hits and one walk as MVNC posted a 1-0 victory over Malone College in the first game of a conference doubleheader. She also pitched three shutout innings in relief in the second game of the twinbill as she allowed just two hits.
Hines closed out the week with another complete game victory as she scattered 10 hits in the Lady Cougars' 9-3 win over the University of Rio Grande in the first game of a conference doubleheader. She allowed three runs - only two of which were earned - and she struck out five batters in the game.
On the season, Hines is 5-5 with a team-best 1.52 ERA. In 69 innings of work, she has struck out a team-high 42 batters and issued just five walks.
MVNC is currently 10-10 overall on the season, and the Lady Cougars are 4-4 in the AMC. The team will return to action on Tuesday when MVNC will travel to Tiffin University for a conference twinbill that is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
