The Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's golf team finished sixth out of 17 teams at the two-day College Preview Tournament held at River Greens Golf Course in Coshocton, Ohio, over the weekend as the Cougars wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule.

Malone College won the tournament title with an 1122 total as the Pioneers edged out NCAA Division II schools Concord College (1134) and the University of Charleston (1143). Malone's second team took fourth place with an 1159, while Mount Union College was fifth at 1175.

MVNC finished with a two-day total of 1192 as Matt Durst led the way with a 228. Durst, a sophomore, finished 12th individually as he had a good tournament that included his first career hole-in-one on Friday. Sam McGraw recorded a 233, Steven Hesson shot a 236, Todd Mazur finished with a 242, and Tim Hirschy carded a 253. Chris Huff rounded out the scoring at 258.

"I was very pleased with our performance this weekend," said head coach Mike O'Hara. "We played against some very good competition, and the course conditions were tough on Saturday. We lack some depth with a group of young players who are inexperienced at the collegiate level. However, I was encouraged by the way that we finished well."

Adam Creasap, a freshman from Malone, earned medalist honors by firing a 219. Yanick Mongeau from Concord was second at 220, while Creasap's teammate, Josh Anderson, was third with a 221.

The Cougars will not return to the links again until March 18, 1999, when the team will travel to Brooksville, Florida, for its annual spring trip.

"We are looking forward to working hard between now and March," O'Hara said. "We want to be ready to go both physically and mentally when the spring season rolls around."
