Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team received all-conference honors when the American Mideast Conference awards were announced on Thursday afternoon.
Tara Seiter, a senior middle hitter from Waldo, Ohio, was selected as the 1998 AMC Player of the Year and highlighted the 12-player First Team. The former River Valley High School star leads the team in kills (664) and blocks (262). She has also recorded 52 assists, 57 aces, and 519 digs. This marks the third consecutive season that she has been the conference Player of the Year.
Rachel Widener, a junior outside hitter from Elyria, Ohio, joined Seiter on the All-AMC First Team. The former Open Door Christian School standout leads the team with 535 digs and a 95.1 serve reception percentage. She has also posted 39 assists, 39 aces, 93 blocks, and 367 kills.
Amanda Schumm, a freshman outside hitter from Rockford, Ohio, was named to the 12-player All-AMC Second Team and the six-player AMC All-Freshmen Team. The former Parkway High School star has compiled nine aces, 31 assists, 88 blocks, 169 digs, and 374 kills in her first collegiate campaign. She is also second on the team with a .323 attack percentage.
Jessica Huffaker, a junior middle hitter from Grove City, Ohio, joined Schumm on the All-AMC Second Team. The former Grove City High School product has recorded four aces, 36 assists, 88 digs, 124 blocks, and 302 kills so far this season.
Darcee Hoberg, a freshman outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, joined Schumm on the AMC All-Freshmen Team. The former River View High School standout has contributed 20 aces, 53 assists, 74 blocks, 197 digs, and 288 kills in her ‘rookie’ season.
The Lady Cougars are currently 48-5 overall and will compete at the 1998 American Mideast Conference Tournament at Cedarville College this weekend. MVNC, the top seed, will open the tournament on Friday with a match against eighth-seeded Geneva (PA) College at 5:00 p.m.
