"Three MVNC Athletes Named to GTE Academic All-District Teams"

   Three Mount Vernon Nazarene College athletes were honored recently when the GTE Academic All-District IV baseball and softball teams were announced.

   Andy Heimbach, a junior pitcher from Wheelersburg, Ohio, was selected to the All-District IV First Team as one of just two pitchers chosen. The former Wheelersburg High School All-Ohioan has posted an 11-1 record so far this season with a 1.12 earned run average. In 72 1/3 innings of work, Heimbach has recorded 116 strikeouts while walking just 11 batters.

   A Social Studies major, Heimbach has compiled a 3.285 grade point average. He has also been selected to the MVNC Dean's List (3.50 or higher) two semesters.

   Jeff Wine, a sophomore outfielder from Bourbonnais, Illinois, was one of three outfielders selected to the All-District IV Second Team. The former Bourbonnais High School star currently has a .397 batting average with nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 24 runs batted in, and 29 runs scored. Wine has also started in all 46 of the teams games this season and leads the team with five outfield assists.

   A Biology/Pre-Medicine major, Wine has compiled a 3.704 GPA. He has been named to the MVNC Dean's List all three of his semesters in college.

   Mandi Halley, a junior outfielder from Ashville, Ohio, was one of three outfielders selected to the All-District IV Second Team in softball. The former Teays Valley High School standout finished the season batting .235 for the Lady Cougars with one double, seven RBI, and six runs scored. Halley also had two outfield assists.

   An Elementary Education major, Halley has compiled a 3.928 GPA. She has also been selected to the MVNC Dean's List all five of her semesters in college.

   The All-District IV Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
