
The Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team will begin play in the 1999 American Mideast Conference Tournament on Wednesday when the second-seeded Cougars take on Tiffin University, the fifth seed, at 10:00 a.m. at Ohio Wesleyan University.
MVNC (29-12, 15-5), the defending conference tournament champions, will send junior Andy Heimbach (10-1 with a 0.70 ERA) to the mound in the first game against the Dragons (20-22, 11-9). The two teams split their regular-season doubleheader with the Cougars winning the first game 7-3 before dropping the nightcap 5-3.
In other action on Wednesday, top-seeded and regular-season champion Ohio Dominican College (34-12-2, 18-2) will square off with sixth-seeded Urbana University at 10:00 a.m. at ODC. Third-seeded Shawnee State University (31-12, 15-5) will battle fourth-seeded Walsh University (26-22, 12-8) at 1:00 p.m. at ODC.
The six-team double elimination tournament is scheduled to run from Wednesday through Saturday with Monday being a rain date. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth in the eight-team NAIA Great Lakes Regional Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University.
