Amanda Schumm, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women’s softball team, has been selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association National Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 22-28.

Schumm, a 5-foot-10 freshman from Rockford, Ohio, posted a 1-1 record for the week with a 0.50 earned run average. In 14 innings of work, the former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School allowed just seven hits, 10 walks, and one earned run while striking out five batters.

Against Wilmington (DE) College, Schumm tossed all eight innings in the 3-2 game for her first collegiate victory and also drove in the winning run with an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning. In her only loss of the week, Schumm tossed a two-hitter and allowed one unearned run in a 1-0 loss to Iowa Wesleyan College.

Schumm also posted a .308 batting average for the week with a team-high six runs batted in, two doubles, and her first collegiate home run.

The Lady Cougars are currently 5-7 overall and will play four doubleheaders at home this week beginning with an American Mideast Conference twinbill against Geneva (PA) College at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at McCougar Field.
